Being from south Texas Gabe. I really appreciate you coming all the way down here to make a video. There's so much great fishing Texas, especially where the mouth of the river meets the ocean in Brownsville tx. I've had gar before several times, but breaded with cornmeal and in tacos with some really good salsa. Can't go wrong that way. Great video.

Amen. I noticed I was bowing my head while your guide said the blessing. I always do when in person. I don't usually when your kids say it, but I noticed that I was this time. I loved his blessing, and I respect him for it. I don't usually say the blessing when I'm alone, but if I'm sitting down with folks, I think it's appropriate. We caught a 4 1/2 footer that weighted about 35lbs on the alabama river. Got the back straps out, smoked them for and hour on the pit boss and the cooked at 250 for an hour. Talk about amazing.

I have lived here in South Texas for over 35 years. Fished the same river and Falcon Lake. Got most of my scout badges in that area. The border is not very dangerous. There was an issue 10 years ago for a few months, but nowadays, you all will miss out not coming down to fish our rivers / lakes or at South Padre Island. Best thing he said... get out there and LIVE! But be careful in general. Love you all!

Me too. I only keep a big one like that once per year, and let the others all go. 24" to 30" gar are the BEST eating, by far. No mud flavor. (My biggest gar was only 54", and only 20% of the weight of these.) Let the big ones go, they made it this far!

My wife and I are missionaries in central Mexico. We have houses in Texas and in in Mexico. I go through Laredo several times per year, and have been to San Ygnacio twice. (Because of Covid, we've locked down in Mexico since February) But when I come back through, I'd love to get your cuñado's permission to fish off the bank on his ranch for a few hours on my way north. Is that a possibility? How much would he charge me to fish? And how much would you charge to be personal security while fishing? I hope it would be possible, thanks for answering. God bless.
