Giant Bass Lake Shelby Gulf Shores Alabama

This trip takes place on February 24, 2024 at Lake Shelby Gulf Shores, AL. We are having a small kayak club bass tournament at the lake today. The format is longest 3 bass over 10". The lures used today are Shimano World Pop 69F, Strike King Hybrid Hunter, and a custom made bladed jig. This trip produced a huge bass for this area. The air temp was high 60s to mid 70s as the day warmed up. The wind started out low and gradually picked up to about 17mph W after a few hours. The major bite was early while calm. Nice video sir! You caught that first bass right in front of where we camp in October. I started in the mouth of the canal with top water but couldn't get bit! Congrats on that hog and the victory!

Thank you! I was thinking those islands near the camping area would be good wind/current breaks and good spawning areas. Not sure if that’s what was going on but I’m pretty sure that big one was pre spawn in the back. Really got lucky on that fish. On the way back I found fish near the bridges busting on glass minnows but couldn’t get them going on any of my baits and had to leave them. It was a fun tournament despite the wind. Thanks for checking out the video. I think a popper will be good at the next cedar creek tournament too.

Hey if you dont have a scale.. take you some string and your board, measure your fish then use your string to get the girth.. use Length x Girth x Girth / 800 . This will give you a pretty accurate weight on bass

Thanks for the tip. I remember reading that somewhere but have never tried it. It would probably be a good idea to have a seamstress measuring tape onboard for that reason. I’m going to have to try that out in the future.
