Yeeeeaaaaahhhh Buddy!!! RRG KY is where it's at!!! I hope you stopped at the "local shop" in the Gorge, if it's the one I'm thinking it is. And I thoroughly appreciated your comment at the end, how you were glad just to be out on the trail, regardless of the FKT record or not. You were also glad to show lots of other people the Sheltowee because you thought it was a cool trail and something known just about inside KY. That made me really happy and proud of my state's trail. Thank you for this video series. :D

Watching these videos makes me miss Kentucky. I spent the first 18 years of life there and think about it every day. Such a beautiful part of the country. Looking forward to seeing the finish of this trail and your future adventures to come. Keep it up Jupiter.

The dam was lock and dam 14 at Heidelberg. I grew up about 5 miles from where that long road walk started.

As many beans as you eat, it might be a blessing that you hike alone. :)

Good video! Almost feels as if I am hiking with you! fantastic rock formations! Sleeping under the tarp in a down pour had to be unnerving! Thanks for sharing!
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
The tarp does pretty well!! I can set it up in about a minute if I need to, and it's large enough to keep away any splash. And wait until some of the next videos!!! The Red River Gorge was just the beginning of these rocks. Kentucky really blew me away.

RRG is my heaven on earth! I'm out there as often as I can! Would like to hear how you planned your resupplies. I'm planning a thru hike of the trace next spring!
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
I only had one planned resupply and that was at the 49er truck stop! However I did write a post on my website for those looking to hike this trail in the future. There are actually a ton of places to buy food along the way that really surprised me! I had no idea. I feel every couple days I walked right by or within a mile of some store or restaurant.

You have gotten some incredible video of the ST! I hiked near Indian Arch (the one at about 3:10) in April and again last weekend, all the foliage has popped and the rhododendrons are about to bloom. It looks like a different trail now.

It was amazing to see all of the plants change as I headed south! At the northern terminus everything was bare still from the winter, but as I continued it just got more and more green!

what were your final thoughts on the Heidelberg death march section and all the damn dogs. i recently just finished a 150 mile section sobo and that road walk with all the dogs was by far the worst experience i have ever had on trail.
@cielrobinson2 жыл бұрын
hey, i'm doing a thru next month and nobody says quite where this awful road walk section with all the dogs is! do you remember roughly where it started/ended/how long it was?

What kind/brand of beans do you use?
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
I buy in serious bulk (like 5 gallons) so I can't recommend anything specifically since everytime I need more I seem to stumble on a new brand. But what I look for is PRECOOKED dehydrated whole pinto beans. Most hikers prefer refried beans that come pre spiced. I have to do all of that myself.

Why not just live on a pilgrimage and never stop...you could live on Love Offerings and honorariums like most pilgrims do...A Pilgrim is not on a thru hike with limited amount of time that you can do the hike we are Pilgrim backpackers... it's a lifestyle...

Love your videos and all you do, but your face is almost always out of focus. I wonder if you wouldn't be better served by a slightly newer lumix camera or even a sony rx100 or a6000 series camera.
