Driving through Bendigo in central Victoria you may come across some giants! These Echinopsis (Trichocereus) atacamensis ssp. pasacana are some of the largest columnar cacti that you will come across in Australia.
Originally planted from habitat collected seed by Tom Dawson and Justin Gill in the early 1930's, they are part of a once thriving commercial nursery and garden that operated up until 1985.
To be in the presence of plants of this size is nothing short of awe inspiring. Note the damage at the top of the plants caused by cockatoos that have acquired a taste for them.
