Actually despite their common name, Camel spiders aren't in fact spiders... they're still a member of the arachnid family but they're actually what are known as solpugids under the solifugae order. They don't even have venom glands, and are very non aggressive to humans unless... like shown, they're put in a position where they feel they have no choice but to chomp down. When they say "they're more scared of you, than you are of it" this is the kind of animal they're talking about in truth.

I love how they're "10/10 friendly" towards us humans and 99.998% safe, yet, they look like the type of nightmare fuel crossover of an alien experiment gone wrong that eliminated their entire species on that planet and somehow landed on ours now. Doesn't add out.

I’d be Stroking out and Flinching all day eryyydayy I Used to be ALOT More afraid of spiders my whole life but I moved off grid during Covid mostly all of 2019 and had Brown Recluse hiding out in my cabins because of the Crazyyy storms that summer in NW Ontario Canada. I can’t bring myself to kill a spider because my fear is Irrational in that I assume I’m going to miss it and it’s going to jump or land on me and the heebie jeebies I get just thinking I’ll miss makes me instead Avoud and literally walk as far around it as quickly as possible and just stay away until it’s gone somewhere else lol I know, it’s Totalky irrational and hatdlyyy likely to happen but I also tell myself she’ll eat the skeeters and fruit flies etc sooooo let them live 🤷♀️

I remember being deployed and believing in all the tales/myths about the scary camel spider more than weapons of mass destruction in Iraq…weird both were wrong but the camel spider was passed on at the ground level and not fake news MSM. It took me like twenty mins to catch one at night. It took so long because it kept chasing me and I would retreat screaming like a little girl…later I found out it was just running for the biggest shadow under my HMMV and I was standing between him and it with a flash light. Catching that camel spider was literally my biggest accomplishment during the 8 months wasted on that stupid deployment. Side note they are scary as F looking and seem to breath heavily with sporadic long looking pubic hairs all over their bodies…apparently they just got a bad rap

Yeah, these critters are notorious for the insane speeds they can move at. Wind scorpions is a nickname I've heard for them and for good reason. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that if these things were scaled up to human size they would be moving at like 50 mph. But that's hearsay so take it with a grain of salt, regardless these things are speed freaks. Totally harmless though.

The fact that you really had to force the camel spider to bite you just shows that they really do just want to mind their own business after getting in your shadow. Coupled with the fact that their bites barely do anything to you.

The reason people are so scared of them is because it will chase you out in the open desert. But what they're actually trying to do is get into the shade that your Shadow is casting because it's so insanely hot in their habitat
