In the early '70s enormous parts of similar nature were being machined using conventional machining. I worked at a high-end shop called Nuclear Components, where I was lucky enough to work with brilliant and amazingly creative machinists, fabricators and welders. They figured out how to do impossible close-tolerance stuff for Westinghouse Reactor Division - most of it in Inconel. One project I worked on - a reactor fuel rod handling tool - was three stories high when moved into its working position. Watching this brings back good memories ;) Thanks!

Looks like one thing they showed here was the TF cools being machined for the ITER fusion reactor.

Another one of the biggest machine groups in Italy right now, side to side with Pama, is BLM group I love their machines
