Having grown up on the bay and caught some nice cobia since I was a little kid on up, I never realized how blessed I was to live here and fish it any time I wanted! Flounder, trout, reds, every year! Particularly the last two years the bay has been on FIRE with huge reds, cobia, and great trout. I’m glad that others are able to come experience it and hope it stays that way for years to come! Only wish the commercial guys would let us have our stripers back…

I still think millions of years ago cobia and remoras were closely related. Not only do they resemble each other….just the way that cobias hang out around big sharks and rays. I don’t know, just my opinion. Epic as always, Vik. Awesome vid!

My theory is that since nothing eats remorse and juvenile cobia look a lot like one, they blend in with remoras on sharks, rays and turtles when they're little and that behavior carries into adulthood.

Welcome to VA Vic! Love seeing these videos from our play ground. Glad you boys had a great trip. You picked a great year to come. Its been ridiculously good so far this season. We've realeased more big fish(over 50") than we ever have. The Chesapeake Bay can an amazing fishery if we just use our heads and protect what we love. Tight lines.
@LandsharkOutdoors6 ай бұрын
Looks like the limits they enforced are good for the fishery! I'm happy to see it strong and healthy.
@shaynezasimowich23946 ай бұрын
@LandsharkOutdoors I'm happy they introduced those measures. I'm certain that lots of cobia meat was discarded years ago. I remember seeing the charter guys coming in with six 50-60 lbers consistently 15 years ago and the minimum used to be 37". No one can utilize that much fish generally speaking. With the limit being 2 and only 1 over 50" I find that I give about half of what I keep away. A couple of guys that I know have mentioned seeing a 100+lber this season. Whether they saw the same one or different ones that's a great sign. Haven't heard of anyone seeing anything like that in a several years. The size and crewl limit seems to be working well. Some other measures that will be implemented by VMRC regarding some commercial fisheries i believe will bode well for several of our species in the near future. Fingers crossed. Great video bro! Looking forward to more content from you guys!

Fishing up in the Big Bend of FLA on the flats with Cajun Thunder corks and pinfish strips for trout n Redfish ,,,, I had a huge Redfish blow up on my cork like it was a top water lure !! The Big Redfish attacked the cork about 5 times and finally ate my bait and then just stripped drag on my spinner with 12lb test until it broke me off !!! I was pissed !! About a hour later another Big Fish blows up on my cork again !! This time it was a Cobia and after a long battle in the light spinner I caught a 42in Cobia !!! One of my most epic days with 2 monster fish blowing up on my big orange Cajun Thunder cork like a Bass chasing a Top Water !!!

First cobia i ever caught was accidental. It was inshore, on a 3500 reel while snapper fishing off a seawall. It spooled me so fast and hard that my reel was literally too hot to touch. I couldn't put my hand on the reel to stop the fish and turn it. I thought it was gonna take ALL my line but it stopped just before i got to the mono backing. I still remember that fight to this day. Probably one of my most memorable moments.

you should come lake fishing for pike here in the Netherlands for some reason the pike here grow to monster size here in NL I think it has something to do with the myth that pike is a bad-eating fish which is BS it is a very good-eating fish but, you have to filet with extreme care because pike is a bony fish. what I do is soft (par) freeze the fish first, when the filet is cut because it par frozen the bones stick out of the meat, and with pliers, you can pull the bones out also de-skin a bit high leaving a bit of meat on the skin so you can then repeat the process of de-boning from the other side and if the meat defrosts then put it back in the freezer for 20 minutes. the end result is a salmon-like as far as looks go filet without any bones the meat is not fishy to taste and is more like cod than salmon in taste. back to size, dutch lake pike can reach a size of 5 feet to in rare cases even 6 feet the reason they get that big is the Dutch don't eat pike in other European countries it is more common to eat pike so in those countries they don't get to be monsters if you want to catch clean and eat monster pike come to the Netherlands! when I was 10 in 1984 someone in my neighborhood caught a 7-foot! pike! and my street all got pike chunks! that where bigger than my head!! it was at that point that my fascination with pike began.

That is the biggest Cobia I’ve ever seen. I see them now & then in schools around jetties but nine are that big but the biggest is still pretty big. They seem to not be interested in anything I throw at them. The thing about fishing in the ocean is you never know what you are going to catch or how big. Just the other day I was fishing with squid in a kelp bed & I hooked up to something big it came up in the kelp bed but I couldn’t see what it was because it took off & just ran & my bad I wasn’t paying attention & I went to tighten the drag & it spooled me I thought it broke me off till I looked a saw I had know line. But whatever it was it would’ve broke me off had I tightened the drag I had 30lb braided line but the jetty rocks just chewy up your line leaving weak spots.

In the panhandle of Florida (Panama city to orange beach Al) was the best place to catch Cobia, over fishing and tournaments have made them extinct, from seeing 100-200 fish a day in the 90’s-2010 to seeing absolutely none nowadays , There are no more tournaments or a migration now.

If you pulled a dingy behind the boat, you'd have 2 boats and could harvest 4 fish! 2 fish, one for each client, seems like a low limit... most people don't want to fish alone to be able to keep 2; and there is the expense of the charter (and air flight to get to the area).
