Giant Hangry Alaskan Malamute Bites Owner To Get Food

Phil is currently undergoing a medicine withdrawal due to going cold Turkey on his Cushings Disease medication. Untreated cushings disease can cause extreme thirst and hunger and we are certainly noticing that, he goes in for another blood test on Thursday where we are hoping we can restart medication for him at a lower dose and get his cushings disease back under control, until then though he gets food when he wants it! The diarrhoea has stopped now so at least we can feed him more and he can actually benefit from it! Operation gain weight is now in session!

I almost wet my pants when Phil got into your tea! My 10-year old ridgeback mix had to have an emergency spay in november and ever since then, she's throwing a tantrum every two to three hours because she's obviously starving. She's also constantly trying to stealfood, which I something she never even attempted before. I could leave the room with a steak infront of her and she would not touch before I would give her the OK. Hope Phil gets over the withdrawal soon, so that his appetit returns back to normal.

You can tell Philips Cushing disease is setting back in with the excessive thirst and hunger . I don't think I've ever seen him put a hole into mommys shirt, nor drink her tea. We send many prayers for Philip, much love. ❤💕

@@rennierad Yes I did see it but that has been when he was ON the Cushings meds. His appetite was also more in control. Off the overdose on the meds appetite BACK. He was just so hungry he went for anything he could find in that cup. Maybe you should listen to Emma’s explanation of his disease. She did not lay out a big bowl of water for him in the last vid. It was the food. Emma knew. He has been off his meds for a week. Listen up. The overdose caused excessive thirst. Educate before you post

Breaks my heart to see big furry dogs lost their coat. I’ve had Akita’s for 20 years and genetic diseases like SA , Cushing’s are always a threat to the big furry dogs. He’s so well cared by you, lucky boy! I know a lot of owners are very dedicated to the affected dogs with long term health issues❤. Respect!

The hormone cortisol is increased as the Cushing’s returns. He’s driven by what’s going on in his body, excessive hunger, thirst, etc., including behavior can become more aggressive as in the video due to the cortisol increase. It has to be difficult, just as it would a human going through bodily changes due to disease. Hopefully, his veterinarian can adjust the medication on Thursday’s visit. So thankful for the men and women who have studied extremely hard to become a veterinarian, and for all the continued ongoing research in that field to find advancements in causes and treatments.
