question, Why do they form lattices if they are supposed to inactive after accepting or losing an electron?... Why don't they stay apart like inert gasses?

good question. for example, in this case the sodium has given one electron to chlorine. This means that the sodium ion is positively charged whilst the chloride ion is negatively charged. this means that the two atoms are attracted to each other, hence why these giant ionic lattices are formed.

Since the metals become positive ions and the non metals negative ions, they attract and stay together. Remember that positive and negative attracts.(they have electrostatic force as said in the video.)

Inert gases are electrically neutral with no charge. Electrostatic forces between oppositely charged ions causes them to be attracted to one another
