How precious a time you must have had here during this celebration of life and honouring those who have died. I am familiar with the feast days on the 1st and 2nd of November but have never experienced them celebrated so beautifully. I can only imagine how treasured these memories are for you. Stunning display and great video recording. Loved it a lot. Your heritage is definitely a living part of you Giorgio. 🥰👍🎥🥳❤️🙋♀️

All that street food looks amazing! The cemetery does look beautiful. I love all the colours. I love the idea behind the kite festival and I love how much detail has gone into every individual kite. They're so beautiful! Tacos are always a good idea, hehe. I love the huge owl kite. Wow, 90,000 people! What a turn out.

I am also Guatemalan and was lucky to attend the festival in 2019. Watching this beautifully made video of the festival brought back so many memories. Today, I am sharing it with my Spanish class in Australia. Well done for portraying the festival and Guatemalan culture in a genuinely positive light.

@@DreamyTravelStory Those weird figures on those kites are really fascinating, that giant cat kite, those human and animal faces and sometime its human faces in animal figures. Really I loved it. But will these giant kites really fly high up, as I am seeing only small kites flying high.
@DreamyTravelStory4 жыл бұрын
@@tracingmyfootsteps Apparently some of the big kites are just there for display, but some of the big ones should be able to fly. The problem was that it was not very windy that day and it started to rain in the late afternoon so they had to protect them from the rain.

What a beautiful and colorful festival.. Thanks for explaining the meaning behind the kites.. It must have been surreal to be there in person to experience the event. Glad you were able to check that off your bucket list! By the way, I thought it was funny to see the roasted pig wearing the sunglasses then I saw the one drinking the beer too! Lol! All the food looked amazing too!

That is absolutely beautiful! I'd never even heard of a kite festival before but after googling, this one comes up as one of the top 5 in the world! Was this filmed recently? That's a lot of people, just wondering if health was a concern or are things pretty steady in Guatemala regarding the pandemic?
@DreamyTravelStory4 жыл бұрын
This is filmed last year. We spent 8 months in Guatemala so we are releasing many videos from our travel there. Guatemala has been more or less in lockdown since mid March so probably this festival won't happen this year because of the pandemic 😢

The kites are huge. It is such a waste of they are burnt after the festival. Would love to see them fly.

What a beautiful with awesome kites! I really like the red owl, that one was really nice. Not sure if I could handle the crowd... Did you not stay to see the big kites go up?
@DreamyTravelStory4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you could enjoy it from the restaurant if you don't want to be in the crowd 😊 It started to rain so everybody left the festival area, but we also heard that some kites are just there for display and are not possible to fly. We plan to visit the festival again in the future so then we hopefully can see some of the bigger kites fly 😊

Very cool that you were in Guatemala for their Dia de los Muertos like we were in Mexico for theirs! Bet that corn tastes better than the corn I smoked on the grill the other night, lol. Those tacos look so tasty! April loves owls, so that part is especially cool. And the colors--they are incredible! Are you two wearing matching shirts?? ;-) We hope to attend this someday; it seems pretty magical! It was not too hot then?
@DreamyTravelStory4 жыл бұрын
We love your video from Dia de los Muertos in Mexico! It is on our bucket list! We agree, the owl is amazing but our favourite is the big "doll" 😊 It was very hot but luckily we could sit in the restaurant terrace that had a roof that protected us from the sun. It would have been tough spending all day in direct sunlight 🌞 Haha, yes sometimes we like to dress similar. Instead of matching camping track suits we are wearing red vintage shirts 😂
@GoTravelOnTheCheap4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you drank a lot of water, lol. We sweated so much in Mexico! Did y'all in Guatemala? LOL, that's fun to do...sometimes we matchy-match on accident! 😄
