Hi Flinter! I just started playing this game, largely because of you, and I am totally loving it. So far, all I’m doing it taking out one star matures and odd shaped 1 and 2 star adults. My question is how do you judge how old an animal is if you run across it as a two or three start mature? I mean… how do you know if it’s going to die off or move to the next star? This is the worst problem I’ve run across so far. I found a 4 star mature black bear, and I don’t know how old he was if I could have let him go? Also… (I’m sorry for all of the questions… but you’re the only one I watch who has this aging down to a science!) how do you pass an age cycle? Is it just an in game day? Alright so easy one first: you pass an age cycle by passing 3 days in game (meaning passing midnight 3 times, either by resting or just by playing. I never night hunt so I always end up doing it by resting) the devs also say you need to play for “an unspecified amount of time” to have the age cycle pass as well. I’ve seen that be as low as like 10 mins. If you’re playing the game at all, you won’t need to worry about that. I think it’s just preventing spam sleeping/resting. So as far as like field judging age. Some species are easier than others. Ultimately it’s gonna come down to experience tho. You sorta learn as you chase individual animals. You see how grey they get as they age and to some degree, can sort of remember how grey like a 5 star is for instance. There’s no true rule of thumb or guaranteed method to figure it out sadly. As for you bear, to the best of my knowledge they don’t get grey. That one is just a kind of “hope for the best” type situation. It’s generally agreed upon that it’s never worth it to shoot a 4 star animal. The chance that it *might* make 5 star just makes potentially hanging a 4 star in the lodge not worth it in my opinion. So like as you watch your 4 stars. A) keep taking down those one star matures and oddballs. Your higher genetics from the ones you’re watching will influence the offspring and cause them to have better genetics themselves and B) take note of what they look like as they age. How grey they get. How grey they maybe look compared to other members of the species etc. At the end of the day. You’re gonna mess up some. I’ve messed up dozens 😂 you’ll shoot some things with high genetic % that you shouldn’t, and you’ll forget to go and check certain animals till too late, when they’ve died of old age. It happens. But as you manage your herds and learn, you’ll get more and more trophies. Most of all, have fun! It’s such a fun experience to watch your herds grow over the years and produce quality animals. Sorry for the novel 😂😂 hope that answers your questions!
