One more thing that I didn't make clear. I was searching in cedar trees for the most part. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Mayapple was the first plant you asked and trillium is what the second one was...very informative video!

Nice video. I am in Charlotte NC and found 450 this season. Cedars don't host morels here... mainly Ash trees and Privet groves. Look for host trees near what I call Transition Zones... where deep woods meet more open woods. Where "bare" ground meets up to more "grassy" areas of the forest. This tip really boosted my foraging numbers. Where deep shade woods meet up with sunnier parts of the woods.

Dang man that’s wild. I used to go a good amount and the most I ever found was maybe a little over 40. 2 years in a row I found 5 all together 😭 unfortunately I moved from there and don’t go anymore. But I never had your luck with 450 lol that’s crazy.

I've heard to use a mesh bag so the spors can spread around as you walk

I have good luck in a big ditch in the woods I go. I will find a least 20 nice size grays growing side ways in it. But even the little walk trail you can see then growing under smaller sticks

So how did you find these spots? Just randomly walking in the woods. Or looking for specific trees? This is my second year hunting morels and need all the info.
@JamesFordOutdoors
@JamesFordOutdoors Ай бұрын
yes just walking around specifically looking for them. After you do it awhile, you pick up signs on what to look for specifically for your area. I search only in cedars because they are more abundant than open woods morels. you just gotta go out there spend the time and search and you should eventually find some. If you know a spot where some are they should come up again next year in that spot so once you see those up you can assume that others are up and go venture off finding new spots.

@@JamesFordOutdoors I live in Missouri. But, I never thought of going in cedar patches. Should I try this on my next outing? Or it's only good in some areas? What's your success with cedar trees?
@JamesFordOutdoors
@JamesFordOutdoors Ай бұрын
@@Rubo7 yes I would try cedars you will have a better chance of finding them now keep in mind some cedars will have them others won’t. Nobody can explain why.also it may be too late to find them this year. My spots have been done for about 3 weeks

@@JamesFordOutdoors ok another question I have. What areas do you look at cedar trees in? In river bottoms? Ridges? Or top of hills?
@JamesFordOutdoors
@JamesFordOutdoors Ай бұрын
@@Rubo7 typically bottoms but sometimes hills. Just make sure it’s cedars with not too many rocks and lots of moisture like moss

Careful, a 30 year mushroom picker just died from eating these. They're not sure if he picked a wrong one & ate it, but the guy reportedly did this for 30 years & knew his stuff. Then from the pic he shared some said he had false morels & that could've been it. Others said they're stories about people being fine & then one day they're not.
