a.ka. A young boy crying for the creator of the Fire Emblem Series. Sorry, subs are slightly screwed. It's been 20 years since Giant Robo was finished - will we ever find out the answer to that question?

I'd give that to either Escaflowne or the Big O, but Giant Robo is definitely up there with the best. Wish it had gotten the full series they planned.

I never noticed this until recently but if you look closely at Cervantes when GR2 prepares to use his Rocket Punches, you can see Cervantes acting out the move
Can a new era be reached without misfortune? Our humanity renders the answer to both questions a resounding no. Nevertheless, that same humanity allows that new era of happiness to be reached at all.
@triplehate67595 жыл бұрын
Considering how the series ended, I would say that happiness CAN potentially be achieved without sacrifice; the real clincher is whether or not we can make the right choices to pull it off, or end up screwing the pooch due to haste/panic/not having all the necessary information.
@stephenbyrne21704 жыл бұрын
That makes sense when you think about it.
@AoiHeartStranger Жыл бұрын
There where sacrifices, a lot of them actually.
@RykenInverse Жыл бұрын
@@AoiHeartStranger I think the commenter's point was that, if a certain key character hadn't made some very grave assumptions about another person's intentions, the entire conflict need not have happened, to which I would say that while that could be true for the individual story told in the OVA, there is still the lingering problem of Big Fire.
the figure standing back at 2:10 is Rinchu of the Clestial Nine, who is also the true identity of Zangetsu from the Magnificent Ten. Rinchu/Zangetsu was made to pilot GR-1 and was in cahoots with Dr Kusama and the Fujiwara clan (explaining why Kenji is there). Rinchu was originally meant to show up in the OVA but was scrapped at the last minute (he shows up in a model sheet of IPO characters). This scene is actually supposted to be a flashback to the first concieved episode of the GR OVA: Birth -The Lingering Moon at Midday (誕生編 ~白昼の残月~), which shares it's name with the Imagawa Tetsujin 28 film in 2007. The film has a Rinchu looking character wanting Tetsujin back as his own mech and an assassin named Zangetsu; all of this was probably from the original plan for the GR OVA.
@user-co3uc8vt7e11 ай бұрын
Okay, 1) where do you get all of this from? 2) there's a 2007 Tetsujin movie?
@popcultureoverdosed9 ай бұрын

@@user-co3uc8vt7e Yes, a tetsujin movie came out in 2007 where shoutaro finds out he has a brother with the same name as him and has to stop a bomb from going off in tokyo.
@pkkingcrimsonrequiem13328 ай бұрын
@@popcultureoverdosed There are several pieces that of evidence that point to this: >The model sheets and Newtype 100% manga include Rinchu as part of the IPO > 2:10 is a chapter stop on the original laserdisc release and is named 白昼の残月(Zangetsu of Midday), subtly confirming It's Zangetsu >Imagawa has said Zangetsu has "some sort of connection" to Daisaku, but explicitly shuts down the sibling theory >The Day The Earth Burned features Rinchu and Zangetsu as split personalities that inhabit their own bodies. Here the Zangetsu thing was a setup by Chuujo that led to Rinchu's death, but was revived by Koumei as a proper Ten member. Here it's established that Rinchu was to get a hold of Robo before it was given to Daisaku >The name, plot and designs of the Tetsujin 28 movie, in which a new character (the other Shotaro) looks suspiciously like the Rinchu found in the model sheet for the GR OVA. The plotline from TDEB in which the Rinchu character feels entitled to GR (substituted for Testujin here) from it's current owner returns here, given that this was a full on Imagawa production it's safe to assume this was at least some sort of plan for Birth. The fact the the name of the movie (白昼の残月) is the same points to this.

Zangetsu is a powerful member of the Magnificent Ten. I loved his appearence too. He seemed paticularily close to Hanzui: The Dark Messiah and Old Man Kawarazaki in the last episode on Big Fire island. Home of their Titan Robots like Poseidon and the mighty Garuda!
Apparently Yasuhiro Imagawa said he didn't like how the OVA ended, saying it was too depressing, and has said he is reluctant to do a sequel to it despite many fans wishes of one.

As a fan of this series, I thought the ending was perfect. I'm fine with it not happening.
@DaimosZ6 жыл бұрын
Rashad Moore that's another thing....most people actually like the ending. The whole OVA from start to finish is a tragedy and the heroes losing kinda finishes it off well for a tragedy. Last time I checked, Hamlet and Macbeth didn't have very happy endings for our heroes either.
@RM2011ish6 жыл бұрын
The bittersweet ending really capped off the story very well. The extra Big Fire stuff they tried to sequel hook for didn't feel very necessary for me. Von Folger's children was the lynchpin of Giant Robo's story and it was developed very well.
@DaimosZ6 жыл бұрын
I always thought of that extra ending being filler. I mean, one can easily ignore it. Kinda like GR: Giant Robo's ending also had a similar end with a sequel hook that doesn't truly impact the final ending (I know kill me for thinking GR: Giant Robo wasn't that bad. Obviously it replaced what might have been a great adaptation of the original 1967 GR manga and couldn't live up to that expectation completely but I could find some merit to it. Then again I loved the Tokusatsu of Giant Robo to death being how I first heard of Giant Robo period so I dunno)

I'm not quite as familiar with Giant Robo's origins and history as you are, but I know when I was discovering anime, this OVA blew me away on so many levels. I still consider it my favorite anime of all time. It has so much of what I love about the medium in it.
