Yasuhiro Imagawa loved that name Big Bang Punch that when he did Shin Mazinger, he gave Mazinger the Big Bang Punch.

this is why i love anime, only genre where the response to giant death machine is to punch it, and it turns out awesome.

Neither. Oda's obviously a fan of Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still, which itself is an homage to the work of Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who created any number of titles that Oda probably grew up on. It's a brilliant series that's basically the spiritual older sibling to things like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

@@pretzel6629 The Day the Earth Stood Still did but that was just 1 part of a whole saga. It ends teasing the final battle in The Seige of Babel but that never happened

@@pkkingcrimsonrequiem1332 I almost feel like it wasn't meant to have an "ending". The entire story is a fusion of homages to Misutera Yokoyama's works and it starts with us just dropped into the middle of what's meant to feel like an ongoing pre-existing story.
