Giant Scale 'Lady Alice' P-51 Mustang (CARF-Model) -- Warbirds & Classics 2021

The Scale Squadron's Warbirds & Classics event took place a couple weeks ago. It was the first event I'd been to in almost two years in fact! It was a great weekend of some flying and catching up with friends. First video from the event is Tim Cardin's beautiful P-51 Mustang built from a CARF-Models kit and painted up as Dr. Ken Wagner's 'Lady Alice'. Specs for the model are as follows:

Such an incredible model and masterfully flown. When he started it and picked it up i could have sworn that was an old Attack 4 radio. I know of course it wasn't but that plane brings back such great memories! Awesome.

Haha, it’s an airtronics sd-10g he’s using in the model. The attack 4 is a big time throw back. 😁. Funny, most of the radios looked the same at time.

Just came across the video. Nice plane but another scale touch i noticed could be done is the radiator intake cut out and made scale in appearance. Nice plane though.

Hi, I caught a short clip of the refinishing Lady Alice and you used a primer etc that wouldnt usually be used on a foamie. But I cant seem to find the video. What was that product. I have a "classic" Parkzone Mosquito 49 inch in desperate need, also the foam seems to be much softer that current so needs a little firming up. Great videos.

Lovely example. Nice scale flying! I just wish it didn’t have that weed whacker noise. I really dig the sound from the big Corsairs and Thunderbolts with big Moki motors. Nice job filming!

Thanks! I thought the sound on this was pretty pleasant. The second cylinder helps give it a softer sound compared to the harsh sound of the single cylinder engines.

Man! How do they get the proper cooling on that engine? There is like no air exit on the bottom. I had to cut a huge hole on the bottom of my Top Flite Giant P-51 so my DLE 55 would not overheat

There are a number of build plans available for the p-51 that use balsawood and plywood for construction. Take a look at ziroli plans or Bob Holman plans.

They fly faster with two blade props, four blades usually are for scale looks, but can fly with four blades at slower speeds.

I hate this new generation complaining about sound and saying that its underpowered. Im only 27 and if i dont smell two stroke fuel burning and hear that model wizzing past me. Whats the point of even flying? Castor oil is even better. I have a great planes super stearman with an electric start saito 180 in it. Its my daily flyer. Or my The World Models P-51D miss america is one of my best fliers. I like my electrics dont get me wrong. But im not into 3 minute flights with EDF's or spending $$$ on a plethora of battery's i have to junk in two years. Im glad the hobby is dying. Atleast i wont live to see the day of only electrics.
