ya gotta do something against an opponent of that size whose trying to clobber and capitalize on you. heath's answering with those kicks, along with not really getting hit more than once at a time on certain occasions... were a help. and just when the giant started to get a second swing of things... glad to have seen this bout.

It's kinda sad, he needed a bunch of surgeries because of his acromegaly and tried to get into pro wrestling but he didn't learn fast enough/wasn't good enough to stay for long so he turned to mma. He's said in interviews that he hated fighting and that is pretty clear in some of his fights. I'm not sure what striking training he had, but I know he spent a year and a half with the Gracie's before he made his pride debut. By the level of striking basics he showed, it's possible all he learned in stand up was from the Gracie's which was not adequate even in that era. There are certain moments when he overcame his fear of being hit and absolutely ragdolled his opponent, making him look like a child, but he was just too inexperienced and afraid. If he hadn't tried basketball and pro wrestling and had just worked towards getting his black belt for 8 years? It's possible he would have become an absolutely terrifying monster who noone would have wanted to face.

Silva is way to slow to have much effect. He swings from the side without much power. He either needs to get a hold on the opponent. Or get him underneath as he's too damn heavy to move. When you see how big the man is it's pretty frightening to think of fighting him.
