Giant Soap Bubbles - Mixing a simple Guar Juice

A very simple soap bubble juice made with guar gum as the main enhancing ingredient has widely proven its capabilities for making nice giant bubbles. It is especially also good when there is lower humidity!

This video is especially meant to give you an idea about how fast and easy a bubble juice with guar gum is mixed. You normally don't need any mixing device but just stir everything by hand using a spoon, a whisk or similar!
I used a magnetic stirrer to be able to better show how fast the guar hydrates.
Having a closer look at the initial mixing phase you'll notice that it starts with a nice vortex that very soon disappears - the guar already had hydrated to a great extent but will finalize during the whole process.
The mix is made of:
4 liter water (the first liter warm from the tap, the rest cold)
160 ml dish-washing detergent (40 ml per liter of water; I used the German Fairy)
6 grams guar gum (1.5 gram per liter of water)
4 grams baking soda (1 gram per liter of water)
2 grams citric acid (0.5 gram per liter of water)
Instead of the baking soda and citric acid you also might just use
baking powder (around 2 grams per liter of water)
All measures are uncritical and you easily can experiment with the amount of guar in a range between 1 gram to 2.5 grams per liter of water.

Thank you so much for the recipe. It is very useful. One question ... I have seen you use alcohol. how much should be used per liter of water?

Hi Tina, the alcohol is not a requirement for the juice to work but is only used to slurry the guar gum. So it's definitely not "per liter of water" but just a few milliliters (perhaps some 30ml) to help to evenly distribute the powder in the alcohol for then easier mixing into the water. Have fun!

@@bolgertom1 In Madrid the climate is drier, the liquid works well, but not as well as you. I was wondering if I add more guar gum to it will work better.

Why citric acid added when baking powder was added. ..quantity of water and dish washing liquid soap not clear how much you have added

Hi dynage, it works perfectly with any "home" alcohol like denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol and it must not be a very "dry" (pure, almost water less) alcohol. A cheap 75% works as well and I've heard from fellow bubblers that they even have great success with the cheapest rubbing alcohol with some 50%. It's anyway for a short moment only you disperse the powder in the alcohol and then add the water. Good luck!
