GIANT WORKING 555 Timer Kit! - Evil Mad Scientist Three Fives Kit || Build And Test

I take a look at an Evil Mad Scientist Three Fives Kit - What they call a "disintegrated circuit" - a 555 timer made of discrete parts. The kit itself is quite well built and VERY well thought-out, including having every internal stage of the 555 timer in its own section and literally only using a few transistors and resistors. Quite an amazing achievement!

The cool part about this and their 741 op am in education is that you can probe various points in the circuit on a scope.

Interesting. I just finished designing a "555" using a dual op-amp and a CD4001 for the flip-flop. That will be in an upcoming video. I went over to the site you linked for this, but they have nothing available (none of their products). Do you mind sharing how much the kit cost?

It was 40$ for the 555, 35$ for the SMT 555, 67$ for shipping (all of this USD$) and 80$ cad of customs fees....it was insanely expensive

@@SimpleElectronics OMG! That's insane! Why the customs? Electronic kits/components are usually duty free from all over the world! They must have used the wrong HS tariff code.

It was cleared by UPS - which means I paid 25$ of agent fees - but I run into this problem a lot. It's duty free to get chinese manufactured goods from China, but once they are shipped from the US, then I pay customs fees, almost invariably. I ask small sellers to ship USPS to avoid paying the agent fees from the carriers

@@SimpleElectronics Yeah, me too on the couriers vs. USPS. I've become pretty militant about it and will no longer buy things if they do no use USPS or ship enough to offer a low flat rate (like Dig-Key or Mouser).
