@@shucklesors Why not though? I always look at any missions that have enemy forces that regenerate overtime and see them as total threats because if your supplies are limited (here limited damage) its kinda obvious "if I dont have enough to overpower the regen, Im done" For me that applies to any game and even without any masochistic rules. If anything regenerates, replenishes structures, bases or simply resets with full HP (if you get too far for example) - I always open my eyes more and am thinking ok, so here I gotta bring burst and insane damage at once to oneshot or kill it quickly AND with no build in this champaigne it was totally obvious.

@@Dark_Voice ok, the main point is that theres a SC2 WOL mission where you start off with just probes and presumably macro up and kill the hybrid. immediately, it sounds ridiculous and undoable, and most of us can immediately intuitively think that theres a need to amend the rules slightly. with havens fall, you can argue, be technical about it, and yes it ended up being difficult, for incredibly specific reasons such as how you specifically had 3 vikings, no medics, the damage output from 3 vikings was at a specific "unsweet" spot for killing that last infestation, etc. these incredibly technical reasons are not what we would think of as causing it to be a really tough one, until we watched this video or watched GGG attempt it. your very generic reasons actually say nothing about anything at all (not a slam on you, i just think youre misthinking things). everything you say, can be "generically" true in "generic" plain words, but its not like the first case where there are FULL ENEMY BASES and you know you start with probes and a base for mining. in fact, havens fall could still be all that with "regenerating, replenishing structures" bla bla bla, and if instead of 3 vikings we had 6, GGG would have did it in 1 to 3 tries. who knows. im trying my best to explain it and if you dont really still get it still im not sure if theres more i can do lol

I watched this run on the archives, and I didn’t know that you were eventually able to beat A Sinister Turn. Your commentary on that mission was fascinating. I wonder why they would make that mission first, especially since they knew that the first campaign would be a Terran-centered campaign. Was that mission just a software test which they eventually put into the game? Or did they plan the Zeratul plotline before making any other missions? I’d love to hear more about this.

It could also be that they had a bunch of other missions done in Sinister Turns programming style, but threw them out the window because they had better ideas in the pipeline. Or this mission was the only one that was far enough into production to not re-do. Or this mission was expected to be simple enough that they should build it first. Or... well... I can keep going.
@artstsym3 жыл бұрын
From a lore perspective, they knew they had to expand upon the hybrid after Brood War (where a secret mission teases them), so presumably this was made to test that using known quantities and without having to worry about creating new units for the player, seeing as this isn’t the Protoss campaign.
@BigBoneBusiness3 жыл бұрын
Do we know which race was finished first? That could explain why it's protoss on protoss, if terran and zerg hadn't been finalized yet. I've also always wondered why those protoss have that dark coloration which shows up nowhere else, I always thought it looked really interesting, like a proto-Tal'darim.
@kennyrlarsen3 жыл бұрын
@@BigBoneBusiness If I remember correctly, they started by importing existing Brood War units for all three races. Marines, Battlecruisers, Zealots, Carriers, Zerglings, Mutalisks, and more were all present in very early builds of SC2. So they would have had prototype versions of each race which they could use to make maps. I'll have to do more research on this. Also, the skins are great. I'm pretty sure skins are purely aesthetic, so they wouldn't affect the core mission mechanics. For example, a skin wouldn't change the collision mechanics or anything like that.

@@Crablover132 it might be possible on Casual. There is less unit variety and only 50% HP. The problem Grant faced on most difficult missions was that he lacked damage so the 50% HP penalty should help significantly.

I just came from your warcraft 3 deathless run videos, and have only just started this one, but your strategy in these games is surreal. its incredibly impressive.

This challenge is completely insane. Between beating a mission with literally 6 probes to using the AI’s complete map vision against itself. This takes a complete mastermind to pull off.

Oddly enought that makes the whole thing more realistic because lets be honest building a tank at the frontline or training new recruits in the liddle of an active battlefield is not something you would normaly see
@fossilizedanimals55032 жыл бұрын
Tbh i mostly see it as the troops/tanks/etc being called to action. Putting on the armor. Checking systems. Since they wouldnt be ready instantly. Even in a war zone
@Draeckon2 жыл бұрын
@@fossilizedanimals5503 The books basically support this idea. I vividly remember the book focusing on the Rebel Yell evacuation mission, in which one of the scenes describes the interior of a CC full of unmanned SCV mechs waiting to be used. Likewise, all of the marines are shipped in advance with their gear mostly on-hand besides weapons and ammo. For the Zerg, they hide a lot of their forces underground in preparation for battles, and keep a bunch of eggs mostly matured, but not quite hatched until they're needed. The Protoss just warp in most of their forces from other locations, so similar to Terrans, with all of their units prepared in advance.

A sinister turn might be the craziest thing you have done, except maybe the blindfolded run. What the actual fuck. The entire segment I was just waiting for you to move on, and was confused why you would take so much time explaining why it didn't work, it should have been obvious with 6 probes..
