Lamar Jackson was 32nd, Russell Wilson was in the 3rd round, Jalen Hurts was in the 2nd round, Jordan Love was in the 20’s. The moral of the story is they can get a QB later in the draft without sacrificing your future capital. They can draft a QB in the 2nd or trade back in the 1st (which would cost them less than trading to the #1 pick). Have them sit for a year to learn the position.

I'm looking to play my 1st and 2nd round, and maybe even Malik Nabors, for as many drafts or trades that make sense. The O line prematurely ended Eli Mannings career. The O Line ended Daniel's career as a NYC. Only a Josh Allen type could succeed with NYG O line talent and it would be because he rushed for 2,000 yards. Without a cohesive NFL starting O Line, it doesn't matter who is QB, RB, R or TE, we won't have a winning season.

Wow. Just realized that Boomer and I played HS QB on Long Island the same years. He was at East Islip and I played for St. Dom's. Boomer is the voice of reason and experience. And for those of us who want to fix the Giants, here's a few recommendations. RULE #1 Control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. This is a foundational principle. Drew Lock's performance was not an aberration, but the product of good protection and the residue of a good week in practice. His 4th start. Lock is a hoopster and played QB like a point guard. He was focused, and kept the offense on time and in rhythm. Players feed off that. You feel it in the huddle. In the absence of pass protection, most QBs not named Mahomes will fail. Eli with and without pass protection are two very different QBs. The same can be said for Drew Lock and practically every other QB. Here's an illustration: The reason Bo Nix is succeeding (the #12 overall pick) and Caleb Williams (#1 overall pick) is not, isn't based on talent, but largely on the quality of the O-Line & coaching, which allows for the great things Nix and the Broncos have accomplished or, conversely, the struggles that Williams and the Bears continue to suffer - a 10-game losing streak and counting. Justin Fields and Caleb Williams are a combined 17 - 42 since 2021. First round QB draft selections do not ensure success. All that glitters is not gold. Perhaps Joe Schoen's most grievous mistake was his failure to address the O-Line before the 2023 season. Instead of trading draft capital for Darren Waller, he should have been securing interior linemen. While the draft is speculative and results often delayed, the condition of the O-Line at that time was obvious and I sensed the Giants offense was heading for trouble. He finally addressed O-Line deficits after the 2023 season, but more depth is needed. And the Giants need to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. So here's a few thoughts... 1. The Smart Move would be to draft Michigan DT MASON GRAHAM with our first round pick. He's a one-man wrecking crew that's NFL ready. Pair him with Dex. Our run defense will be stout and won't fall apart when either Dex or Mason needs a breather. Our pass rush will absolutely wreak havoc and do its part to create turnovers. 2. Via draft and FA - bolster O-Line with mix of experienced linemen and quality guards/centers for development. We need depth. 3. Ditto LB & Secondary - mix FA and quality draft prospects. Two Years - The above recommendations will take two years. Establish a healthy balance between draftee talent and quality FA contracts. Bear in mind the timeline of the draft picks and FA contracts, especially the their expiration to coordinate enough funding and in-house talent for anticipated departures. There's no quick fix, and simple is not always easy... or simple. 4. Sign Drew Lock to a reasonable contract with incentives. You're investing in stability and baseline competence. At worst, you'll have a quality back-up who understands the offense and can perform well with reasonable protection. At best, the NFL can add to its growing list of experienced QBs a QB that found a situation in which he can thrive in a starting role. I know some Giants fans disagree. I've studied all of Drew's available film and I'm not at all surprised with his performance, especially when one considers the maturation in both his personal life and on the field under the tutelage of Pete Carroll. Drew is he's entering his prime and can make any throw his position requires - zip, loft, fade, back-shoulder, 50/50 ball & bomb - name it. His arm reeks talent. As he settles in, Drew appears to be gaining command - he's recognizing defenses and making the proper pre-snap alerts, and reads from the pocket. He's establishing trust with the receiver corp. Promote this process. It's a player asset. Maybe I'm more willing to cut him slack than most others because I played QB for several years and know how solid O-Line play can positively impact performance. Keeping it real, Drew needs to minimize the turnovers, but he knows that. Early on, I expected some hiccups from Drew, some worse than others. Most QBs fall on their face, usually when placed in novel situations or when sabotaged by "look-out" blocks. Regardless, it appears he and coach Tierney have done their homework, which yielded last week's success. It's a weekly endeavor, trust me on this one. 6. During the interim, find the right draft-eligible QB for development. I now live in Syracuse and saw Kyle McCord outperform Cam Ward. Both QBs played well. Whomever the Giants select, he'll enter an experienced QB room, as did Drew when he joined Geno Smith in Seattle. Just like Geno, Drew has experience and the battle scars to prove it - none of which prevented him from posting a ridiculous statline - 17-23, 309 yards, 4 TD's, TD score and a 155.3 QB Rating against a team still in the playoff hunt. Draft from a position of strength and not weakness, and definitely not out of desperation. Final thoughts - Rebuild the TEAM first. Quality QB play will follow in suit. Lock has already given Giants brass a glimpse. The GM needs to get his hands dirty and suck it up - be about the business of creating a strong Football TEAM.

@@michaelmeenan5522 my ideal wishlist scenario was for the Giants to cling to the first overall pick, and then fleece another team like Oakland for it. We could have traded it back for future first round picks and concentrated on filling other positions of need while either retaining Lock or pursuing some other free agent QB on the cheap. I expect next year to be another wash but in the meantime I’d at least be amused by seeing a KirK Cousins or Derek Carr lob the ball around in blue. Sanders brings too much of the circus to town, Cam Ward has not blown me away, and nobody else is appealing. Let’s not make the same mistake we did with Daniel Jones (who we destroyed). If Dabes and Schoen are on thin ice, we shouldn’t let them draft a QB just say they can then be fired, and a new regime take over without “their guy.” And on and on the cycle goes.
