My Uncle was murdered on December 5th 2007, he was such a huge Giants fan that we buried him with his Eli Jersey in his casket. @@assassinbrcp6206 One of the most memorable for sure. Probably the one I'll remember for a long time. All the build-up, all the focus on the Patriots trying to complete the 'perfect' 19-0 season, the Giants being huge underdogs although I had a feeling they could at least make things interesting perhaps and not get run over like some 'experts' were predicting. It was a low-scoring defensive struggle but they saved the best for last. The back-n'-forth momentum in the 4th quarter, the Patriots almost looking like they HAD completed the season of perfection, but then the miraculous catch by Tyree that kept their final drive intact, & then the Giants' D making the final stop to complete the upset. To this DAY I still get goosebumps watching these replays again.

@russelllee46278 жыл бұрын
MrBaddog7676 Actually, not as what you might think. Although that was a big 3rd down to convert, giants were in a situation in which many people call "4 down territory" which means you have 4 downs because you have to go for the score. That's why 3rd downs lose there importance on game winning drive where you have to score.
@billny337 жыл бұрын
yeah but do you really want to see Eli and the Giants have to convert on a 4th and 11 against that Patriots defense? It becomes one single long shot play for all the marbles. We know the 3rd and 11 wasn't do or die, it was just closing in on do-or-die. 3rd and 11 is still tough. Plus, the Giants had no timeouts by then, so the fact that Smith got the 1st down and then got out of bounds, ASAP is huge. If he catches it inbounds, the Giants have to race to the line to stop the clock or run a play and lose precious seconds/downs.

Talk about a team that had tons of grit. The 07 Giants are easily one of the grittiest teams to ever win a Super Bowl. Just the path to here for them was epic: They got into the playoffs via the Wild Card because of their 10-6 record, they had to play the Bucs in Tampa for the WC, then they had to face the Cowboys in Dallas in the divisional round to advance, then they had to play the Packers in Green Bay for the NFC Championship game, in what turned into the second coldest NFL game in history (the 1967 ‘Ice Bowl’ was colder) that went into overtime, mind you! And they still weren’t done. Then they had to face that juggernaut 18-0 Patriots team in the Super Bowl. And they beat them! This game alone is why Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, and David Tyree should be a lock for the Hall Of Fame.

This is the game where the Patriots put the Miami Dolphins undefeated talk to rest. After this game majority of those Dolphins stopped celebrating including Coach Shula, that they were the only undefeated team. Just a couple still celebrate, those few just can’t face the truth. The Patriots went on still to reach the point of 18-0 passing the Dolphins 17-0. The Patriots had to play 2 more games than the Dolphins did and still passed them. The Patriots are now the only NFL team to reach a 18-0 record. Pats lost the Super Bowl but it took a miracle catch to finally beat them and for Patriot Nation that’s fine. That it took a miracle to beat them. “ it is what it is” The Patriots would go one to 6 more Super Bowls and winning 3 of them. Cementing the NFLs only 20yr DYNASTY. Most dynasty’s during the SB ERA last just about 5yrs. The Patriots from 2001 to 2019 went to 9 Super Bowls and winning 6 of them. The averages going to a SB every other year.

The Pats defense failed to gather 6 of the 7 potential turnovers Eli and the NYG provided...Hobbs Asante Rodney and Meriweather all dropped at least 1 int, Seau may have dropped one other as well if memory serves, and Pats backup OLB 58 P.Woods somehow failed to come out of the pile with the ball hed fallen upon after Eli fumbled it right to him...The NYG officially had 2 fumbles in that game neither of which the Pats recovered...The Pats werent able to handle them on either LOS...The NYG RBs combined for rush 87yds-which may not be an outstanding total but the Pats had less than half that total-Maroney gave them almost nothing on the ground except that 1 TD. The Pats offensive line provided the worst performance collectively of the season and in several cases individuals among them provided the worst performances of their careers. Mankins arguably their best OL during that era is 1st & foremost on that list, he was playing injured...Nick Kazcur was likewise playing thru pain but was also likely going thru a painkiller addiction withdrawal process after having been arrested a few weeks beforehand with thousands of pills then snitching out his suppliers in order to avoid jailtime...M.Light and Koppen also didnt have their best day...During SB42 the player who had been the Pats best LB for the majority of that season was playing with 1fully functional arm. Brady spent the weeks leading up to that game in a walking boot...Moss meanwhile got into a domestic with his sidesqueeze in Florida during the bye week before the Pats postseason began and for one reason or another contributed less statistically during that postseason than seemingly every WR or passing recipient in general did on the team. Stallworth directly contributed more significantly to the Pats win over the Jags in the div rd than Randy did in any of those 3games. The Pats were very worn down by the time that game began...They had lost vital components of their team to injury and players on each side of the ball were running on fumes physically and esp emotionally after having had to bite their tongue all season long while the media opponents and fans continually/ceaselessly slandered them for something they had no guilt/culpability for in any way...In order to keep them motivated every time they won a game that season Bill spent more time during their ensuing film sessions focusing on their mistakes/what they did wrong than their positive achievements, force feeding them humble pie on a daily basis to combat the hype ESPN was pushing out about how talented, unstoppable they were...As that hype continually built up opponents began playing them with a different level of intensity treating it as their own individual defacto SB the Ravens are a perfect example of one of those teams...they didnt have many blowouts during the 2nd half of that season as a result of that and costly injuries were delivered to their starting OLBs as a result of opponents increased desperation as well. Their OLB trio throughout the 1st half of the Pats season was the unsung hero and arguably even the strength of that defense. With Colvins broken foot and Vrabels busted shoulder they were reduced and that left to large a burden on Bruschi and Seau at ILB both of whom were significantly past their primes by that point in their careers, as was Rodney Harrison, and Hobbs was more or less a liability esp against P.Burress. Must have been an awful experience to go thru as a player...Speaking as a fan I can assure you nothing has or ever will be a worse, more devastating and undeserved, journey to experience unless my entire team perishes in a plane crash or something someday...Whether they turned on their tv at home or listened to their coach at work they were hearing nothing but negativity...no matter where they turned the only source of positivity was the media hype theyd been trained to dismiss as something thats unproven and counterproductive towards their ultimate goal, and just as the season approached its conclusion and they thought theyd earned resppect again, that spygate was finally shifting into their rear view mirror Arlen Specter injected himself into the fray and shifted focus back onto the ramifications of a rule violation they themselves werent guilty of in any way...At that point, especially once the Matt Walsh Rams walkthru story broke, they musta known that if they finished 19-0 half if not 2/3 of the country was going to assume/insist that they musta cheated again anyways-as a fan of that team at that point it became very difficult not to develop a minor if not acute sense of paranoia tbh. In 2006 the Phins shut the Pats out-Bradys 2nd and last shutout for the next15yrs, after receiving a spytape which tipped them off to various things the Pats did which members of the Phins spent the following 2days on tv news articles and radio bragging about having known everything the Pats were about to do before NE did it based upon tips from a tape the Dolphins org had mysteriously received in the mail the week before facing NE. Clearly the Pats were far from the only team using cameras to clue in, nor was it even entirely/fully illegal, yet the league and medias narratives seek to insist that they were...Losing after reaching the brink of perfection would have been far too devastating even without spygate...Moss was so devastated he doesnt even remember the 24hours following that loss has a vague/blurry recollection of getting showered and changed nothing else, shock of it essentially made his brain block out that emotional turmoil...Brady has indicated he may have retired that ensuing offseason had NE won that final game and that he almost certainly wouldnt be playing anymore if they had either way...He could win 2more SBs b4 retiring and still wont be satisfied with his career when he does because of that single loss. As a student of the league its history its economics its various structural and financial dynamics I am certain that the reason the Pats were singled out like that is because their upparalleled dominance over the league was threatening to begin cutting off what fuels the leagues bottom line-Parity...Same exact reason deflategate happened...Brady was overshadowing if not destroying the marketability of multiple generations of QBs. The number of fans the league would have lost over the last 6yrs if they didnt have deflategate to point to as an excuse for Toms/NEs success would likely have served to provide the largest financial loss/setback in league history, perhaps even with the pandemic losses included...Millions of fans would have turned off their TVs and closed their wallets multiple generations of young potential fans would have turned their attention elsewhere as well...Be tough for Fox or CBS to charge sponsors as much for SB commercials if 30% of fans refuse to watch because theyre tired of if not bitter over seeing the same QB/team in that final game every other yr especially while their fav QB/team seems lucky to host a conf championship once or twice every 15yrs during that same timespan.

It's kind of amazing, because Eli didn't have a particularly great last drive. A ton of missed opportunities by the Patriots defense for a turnover. But somehow Eli managed to pull it together. Probably the most incredible finish (considering the historic proportions of the Patriots season) to any sporting event ever. And without a doubt, the greatest underdog victory ever.

I just watched it and the whole time I was thinking he played actually pretty awful , he caught so many breaks. Gods must’ve been with him because it was a sloppy drive where he was just lobbing dudes left and right .

Bradys career is truly indescribable. The sequence of events that had to take place for him to lose this might rival lottery odds. The barely first down on 4th by Jacobs, the missed interceptin by Samuel. The near sack of Eli a couple times on the Tyree catch then the Tyree catch itself, then the 3rd and 11 to smith, then the TD by Plaxico, then stopping Brady. Almost a decade later, Brady made this Giants sequence of events look probable compared to the 28-3 comeback against Atlanta in which literally like fifteen 50/50 plays in a row had to fall the Pats way for them to win. Its like Brady loses sb he is supposed to win and wins the ones he is suposed to lose. What a career
@TWS-pd5dc Жыл бұрын
How about the sequence of events that put him in a position to win??? Giants driving for another score in the first half, Eli throws a pass right to Smith, it bounces off his hands and winds up in Harrisons hands?? Took a minimum of 3 points off the board for the Giants. Then after the Giant D stops the Pats with Giants leading 10-7 Eli has Plaxico wide open with not a Pat within 10 yards and overthrows him? Took time and a first down off the board and maybe another score? Finally Giants force a punt, then stupidly don't get all their players off the field and resulting penalty gives the ball back to the Pats? Both teams got breaks that day, Pat fans just want everyone to focus on the ones that went Giants way. Giants completely outplayed the Pats that day, that's why they won.
@theonlygoodonehere2259 Жыл бұрын
@@TWS-pd5dc I mean, its the same as how we came back down 28-3, thinks went against us as well to cause us to be down 28-3, thats the point, we focus on the winning team moment, because teams don't get fortunate chances for things to lean towards their way especially down to the final minutes to make comebacks and win or lose barely, thats the point, its same like all our other super bowls, you can say we outplayed them, but I see them as fortunate circumstances in the final drives
