Osaka è una metropoli moderna con i suoi grattacieli ma c'è ben oltre. Noi soggiorniamo a Kitahama, nel quartiere business, dove risolviamo un piccolo problema meccanico ad una bici prima di partire per il giro del sud del Giappone. Movimentata anche per via del suo importante porto commerciale, la capitale sull'isola di Honshu mostra un volto insolito di notte quando le strade dei frenetici quartieri di Namba ed Umeda iniziano a svuotarsi. Oltre ai luoghi iconici della cultura pop di Den Den Town e Amemura, alcune sue zone, come Nakazakicho, conservano un'identità tradizionale ma giovane ed un po' alternativa fatta di piccole attività, scene di vita quotidiane ed edifici storici. E' proprio quando, in un ordinato caos serale, i giapponesi rincasano dalla movida per prepararsi alla successiva giornata di lavoro, la bici si rivela il mezzo migliore per godersi i suoi vicoli pieni di negozietti, rigattieri e sale da té.
Osaka is a modern metropolis, but it is much more than just skyscrapers. We stay at Kitahama, in the business district, where we first have to solve a small mechanical problem with a bike before leaving for our bike along southern Japan. The busy capital of Honshu island has an important commercial port but at night, when the frenzy streets of Namba and Umeda begin to empty out, it shows its unexpected side. Apart from the iconic pop quarters of Den Den Town and Amemura, some other districts, such as Nakazakicho, still retain a traditional - but young and somewhat alternative - identity with its small shops, scenes of daily life and historic buildings. It is precisely when, in a controlled evening chaos, the Japanese go home from the night out and get ready for the next workday, the bike proves to be the best way to enjoy the alleys full of independent stores, second-hand shops and tea rooms.
