Thanks for sharing this. I am from Borneo Malaysia, born and raised in Miri. This is truly reminds me of home. Just close my eye and listen it in the dark, it brings me home immediately!

Haha, maybe someone prefers city noise and pollution or finds the wilderness frightening ;) Thank you for your kind words though, it's a pleasure to be sharing these soundscapes.

Mesmerizing! what an active and wonderful rainforest sound. Hearing the forest sound always brings back nostalgic memories of childhood. Indeed, these primal sounds (gibbon calls, and hornbills) have graced the rainforest for millennia, we mustn't let it go silent within our generation.

Borneo, born to be new is the name of the island, massive jungle, the whole rainforest will be able to maintain the cacao sources, good fresh trees, great fruits to be grown around it

Amazing recording. Listen to all of your stuff while I work. As a bird guy, my favorite part might happen at the start with the utterly bizarre "song" of the Helmeted Hornbill. It starts with low single notes start at 00:30, goes into double notes at around 00:50, and slowly builds up to a crescendo of evil laughter at 01:20. Thank you for this recording.

@GeorgeVlad4 жыл бұрын
Jonas at Lom uses Primo EM258 capsules for MikroUsis and custom circuitry in the Pro variant. I've used the EM172 capsules in Clippy mics and I quite like them, the only downside being that they don't reach as high in the frequency spectrum.

Fantastic work man, I used to listen to tropical rain forest sounds nowadays to sleep. It's an inspiration to buy a few gadgets and start recording because I am from tropical Rain forest in Kerala , lived at Himalayas and am currently living in the countryside of lake district England. I suggest you to travel to tropical rain forest and mountains in Kerala and south India to record 👍🤟

This was recorded at Maliau Basin in Sabah, Malaysia. There are absolutely stunning soundscapes all over Borneo though, as long as you can get away from oil palm plantations.

Great quality. Afterworths did you proces the sounds at home or is this 'as is' .....?
@GeorgeVlad4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The only processing I did was subtle rolloff of frequencies below 50Hz and a few dB of added gain. Otherwise it's all as recorded.
@mariadecat4 жыл бұрын
this is pure magic!! is the whole thing recorded with Sony PCM D10?
@GeorgeVlad4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, but not with the on-board mics. Those would have sounded a bit thin and the stereo image would have been quite narrow.
@mariadecat4 жыл бұрын
thanks! i’m thinking about whether to get the Sony PCM-D100 along with microUši microphones or the Sound Devices MixPre II field recorder. would you recommend going for the Sound Devices recorder since it’s not much more expensive than the Sony? it also seems like it is more versatile and has better headphone amps? i’m interested in recording nature and street ambience but have no experience in field recording so i’m really confused which recorder to get. i just want a very clear and crisp sound.
@GeorgeVlad4 жыл бұрын
@@mariadecat You can get excellent results with either. The D100 will be easier to learn how to use and more portable, while the Mixpre may require a bit more time investment and isn't as easy to carry. Both have their uses though. For a beginner I would recommend the D100 and MikroUsi combo, with a view to getting a bigger recorder later.
@mariadecat4 жыл бұрын
George Vlad thank you for your advice! do you know if PCM D-100 can handle 250 ohm headphones? and do you recon the microUši microphones would work well with MixPre II too or would you recommend getting something else?
@GeorgeVlad4 жыл бұрын
@@mariadecat Not sure about the headphone preamp on the D100. It's worth contacting Sony about it. As for the MikroUsis, they should work on the Mixpre II through the 3.5mm connection. I would get the Pro version that uses phantom power in that case though.

The recording levels depend on too many factors to be able to offer a simple answer. The best way to learn is by doing it over and over again. check out this video for more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jomZf6SLoLapnM0
