Any thoughts on why the rotate tab is not appearing? Our upgrade was a decent leap (2014) and still trying to figure things out.

The rotate tab will not appear unless you have 1) Choosen a 4-axis Mill. You can't do rotary milling on a 3-axis mill, has to be a 4-axis mill. Then check the Machine Setup page under the Document Control window. Normal 3-axis mills with a rotary table are usually on the right hand side. Make sure this is correct. The face of the 4th axis should be perpendicular with the X-axis. 2) You have to be on the XY plane on a mill. If a lathe then the YZ plane. Hope this helps. (of course you have to have the Rotary Milling/Polar&cylindrical option as well).

i've been battling this for a while wondering why running a contour on "wrapped" geometry wasn't following the toolpath properly .. so the geometry needs to be "unwrapped to get a the proper toolpath?? if that's the case, what are the benefits of wrapping your geometry around the part? Also, I notice that the post (when rotary milling) will show very high feed rates, but no G93 or G94 code which turns to "feed per minute"?? or do newer machines automatically do this when feeding in the A axis?

There two different ways to do Rotary milling, and that depends on your part. If you have a Solid Model of your part with the engraving already in the model already, that is when you extract the geometry, then go to Modify, then Unwrap. If you already have a part, and you are "creating" the geometry to "wrap" around a cylinder, draw that geometry at the diameter of the round stock, then you click on the WG (workgroup), then right click on the WG, then click on WG info, then put a check in the check box that says "wrap". Now that will wrap the geometry around the cylinder. IF you click on the Wrap Icon (small icon under the main toolbar) you can see it wrapped and unwrapped. Hope this help.

You don't necessarily need a separate post, but you might need your post processor updated to use right-angle heads, etc. Normally a standard post does not support it. If you want Gibbs can create a RA head. You can provide the model and Gibbs will create an intermediate Tool and modify the post processor to use it.

I will try to get that to you next week. Does it render correctly? If so, and it tells you that you need a rotary post, you probably have an older post, as all the new ones from a year or so ago all have rotary built in.
