Glad to finally see videos like this. Need more of them! One thing though, need more real world examples. For example, when you did your op3 finish cut. Your roughing op left alot of material at your start and finish positions for the finish cut. Real world, that would cause problems, break tool, chatter, etc.

Also guessing you have never used a slitting saw? Lol. Anyways thanks for the video.

There are definitely some tweaks that could be done on this part, as in all parts. The area you mention we could just move the roughing a little closer to the vise, and use less lead-in/lead-out on the finish to still do a finish pass without cutting into the roughing radius's. Thanks for watching.

@@GibbsCAMVideoTutorials How would you go about machining closer to the vise without cutting the part off completely? Would you have to duplicate your part and extrude the end further into the vise? Then use that duplicated part for your volumill operation? Thanks again! I really hope this is the first of MANY videos like this to come out.

@@cruch9 I redid the toolpath, and this is what I changed. In the Volumill toolpath I changed it from .500 clearance to .300 clearance, then on the finish pass I changed the arc-in from .200 to .100 and moved the start point to just .050" from the end, and when you run the simulation the finish pass does not even touch the radius left from the Volumill path. Can't attach a pic, but it looks good.

@@cruch9 In 45 years of machining I have done most every kind of machining. You are forgetting this is a tutorial, feeds/speeds are at your discretion, as well as rough stock and finish stock. Slitting saws have changed dramatically over the years, and indexable insert slitting saws are very common, and you would be surprised how aggressive you can use them, but like I said this is a tutorial, your choice on how you want to use them. Thanks for watching!

hello, great video. can you please share how in the document control you have the machine setup for the rotation. thanks

Hello nogoprecision. What you see on the DCD depends on how the post and MDD are set up. If you don't have a MDD that came with your post, your DCD will have a tab for Setup. There you can choose how your 4th and 5th is set up, and the directions they travel. As you can see on my video I don't have a SETUP tab, as my post has all the directions of the table already built in, which is what the MDD will do. Once that is done there is no need for the SETUP tab. Once you have all that finished if you do have a Setup tab, then you can decide where you want the rotations from. This also depends on the post, and how it was written for the customer. There are normally two ways customer setup their 5-axis machines. Program from COR (center of rotation). This is the center of rotation of the 4th and 5th axis. The other way is a XYZ 0 point on the part. Note though that normally most machinists like to have all their rotations from that 0 point. No need to put CS's at different face of the part. Keep all the rotation around a central point. Sorry for the long message. The post department can make your post the want you want to program. Each machinist might choose one way or the other. Thanks for watching. Maybe I should make a vide on setting up a 5th axis using the Setup page???

How can we make a cs on a curved surface? Like a radius for example. I want to make a boss on a a radius but can’t figure it out.
@GibbsCAMVideoTutorials11 күн бұрын
First you need three points to make a CS if you don't know the angle you want. Once you have three points you can project those points onto the surface, so then go to Plug-Ins and choose GeoEdit Project (Normal). Select the surface, then select the points, then Do-It. Gibbs will project the points onto the surface. Then make a new CS, select the points, then open the CS Pallet and click on the Align CS Plane. Then you will have a CS using the three points. Thanks for watching!

Guys who have solid works ? Can use Gibbs cam ? Can any one explain me please
@GibbsCAMVideoTutorials Жыл бұрын
Yes, GibbsCAM can open Solidworks in one of two ways. 1) If you have Solidworks on the same pc as GibbsCAM, there is a link in Solidworks to automatically transfer your part file into GibbsCAM. 2) If you don't have Solidworks on the same pc as your GibbsCAM is, just open the Solidworks .SLDPRT (part file) or .SLDASM (assembly) from within Gibbs. Since both GibbsCAM and Solidworks run on the Parasolid kernel they are totally compatible. Once in Gibbs if you need to manipulate the Solidworks file you can do so without having to transfer back to Solidworks.

If you send me the name of the post I can look and see why. Just need the name of the post, the full name.
@@mohammedalbasha5968 Hi. This post looks like it came from Productec out of Switzerland. They usually designate their posts by the ProAXYZ name. This would be their web address. www.productec.ch/en/ They should be able to help you with their post processor.

Don’t for get when doing an operation make sure to add comments to that operation that will make it easier on the machinist to know what that tool will be cutting
