It hurts to see how Gibby was struggling with his Parkinson's Disease even back then. That aside, my heart cannot handle the pure beauty of these 2 gentleman and GOAT's reminiscing over the greatest sports moment in LA history.

Dennis was a great sport to do this. Kirk is a Michigan legend, both in baseball and football (MSU). Kirk has an astounding memory, as do both guys. Kirk listed all of Dennis’ accolades, and then asked “wanna trade” (careers)? That was a cool compliment

So glad I ran across this video. I grew up a lifelong Dodgers fan in the L.A. area and my wife grew up in the East Bay as a HUGE A's fan. We didn't know each other at the time, but years later we talked about this moment. Although it was for different reasons, we agreed that we both cried when Gibby hit that homer. Awesome memories.

Love how Eck reflects back on the walk before Gibson as being the key lynchpin that led to that home run. I was watching the clip of that game before I saw this interview and that walk led to Eck having to throw to first 3-4 times and then worry about the runner when he finally stole second. Eck lost just a bit of his focus and momentum. Eck also underestimated Gibson. as he infers in the conversation. Thats all it took. That being said, Eck is one of the greatest closer's of all time and found redemption the following year with a World Series Championship. Much deserved!! Great conversation!

I have been an A's fan since 1982. Eckersely rarely walked any batters; if he did, that was a warning sign that he didn't quite have his commanding stuff for that outing. If you look back on the rare times when he blew saves, you can see that it always started with a walk.

Love Ecks ability to talk about what is arguably the worst point of his career. What is rarely mentioned is Kirks determination to fight during this "at-bat"
@matthewbingham88242 жыл бұрын
Go watch Ecks life story, and you will realize this is NOT anywhere close to his worst point of his career. The A's fell apart after game 1, just as they did in the 1990 world series. Eck is hands down the most dominant relief pitcher in the past 50 years!

I was 11 years old and saw this on TV live. I hated Dennis Eckersley.( I was just a dumb kid that thought he looked like a jerk) I love getting older and wiser. Poor Dennis Eckersley was saddled with this one AB for 30 years. It is really unfair that this has overshadowed his Stellar career. Mr. Eckersley you are a Class Act. I take back every mean thought I had about you. The only problem is now the clips not as fun to watch because I know who you are as a person!!

The 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers had the most guts ever for a World Series champion. Kirk Gibson had THE WORST stats ever for a Most Valuable Player player in a season. It was an award for willing a team to do the impossible not once (Giants), not twice (Mets) but three times (Athletics).
