I a/b it with my J-185 with the same anthem pickup and I think there's something wrong with the pickup and they were good to send me a new one and switch it out! I will let you know how that goes. Great work and will be sending more your way in the future! Glad to know you!@@harpethguitar

I guess that hole in the side could serve as a sound port of sorts. Hard to believe the stuff that happens to guitars. At least you are there to clean up the mess. Another good job.

Home run! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Scott, you are a master craftsman when it come to these finish repairs. You’re like a mad scientist with all your drop-a-this and squirt-a-that concoctions, and your final results are as near perfect as a finish repair could possibly be. Really impressive; great job! why not use the side hole as a side sound port just tidy it up ??

Incredible how some people thrash their instruments just because. There doesn’t seem to be an innate need to do that as the guitar is not a combat weapon or a tool for hard labor but I am guessing the “patina” fad might have something to do with that.

What is the plan for the preamp hole?

We slapped a rectangle piece of red tortoise pickguard material over it and called it a day!

I thought the same thing... that's GOTTA be a Chibson. The fret markers looked all funky. Maybe just camera angles, but that seemed a little off. 😅

The finish checking would point to a true Gibson. Chibson in my experience rarely have a nitro finish like that.

On that hole in the side, it would definitely not look right, but he could bend a piece of woog the right size to fit over the hole, maybe paint it black, and then mount a preamp on the patch. Would it look right? Absolutely not. Would it look better than that hole? Yes. How do I know? I did a cheap Ibanez with a large hole like that and mine turned out just OK. Not great.
