bluecajun2000 I was at a Guitar Center in SLC, Utah, and they had one left. It was brand new, but on clearance. Came with a case. I don't think they have any more.

No, it was the 2014 model. It says 120th anniversary on the 12th headstock, and doesn't have the black pickup covers over the humbuckers (they're the zebra ones, just like the 2014 model). It's the 2014. I know my guitar. Haha

Just played one of these yesterday. The neck was fast, frets were smooth and not sharp at the edge. Tone was amazing. I prefer the finish over the other sgs Ive played. Clapton and Dickey all day with this thing

The Zebras are very similar to the Burstbucker Peo pickups. They sound phenomenal. Best guitar purchase I've made in years. Big bang for a few bucks!

Greg makes any guitar sound great!...i own the SG special from 2012, its a cracking axe, intonation is perfect and so light, would highly recommend these as a starter Gibson!

Yeah I got lucky and found a 2013 SGJ at a crazy price. I've got 4 SG's, a Standard, SGJ, 50's Tribute and a Junior and the SGJ is hands down my go to. Yeah the black plastic pickup covers look like crap but you get over that once you plug it in and hear it.

I just got a cherry red one on a trade with my prs mira. Got that mira brand new and hated it, tried everything.i could to try and like it. I hate prs guiars. This gibson is worth a few hundred less but plays and sounds 150% better and you can tell.its a work horse. The prs felt to delicate.

@@jonathanoakley88 Ive taken that sgj on tour from Minnesota to New York. Recorded lots of records with it. I used a fender strat standard once I could afford it and left my sgj safe in the studio, unless there was a real big show happening, then I would take it out.

i'm more a bassist than guitarrist and i got one of these for super cheap as my only electric guitar! great feeling guitar and sounds great unplugged, but i really dislike the bridge pickup sounds Dx watching this vid i hear that thin choked-out sputtering harshness (clean it sounds decent i guess) and go "yep, that's what i got tooo." maybe ill change it for some paf-like, but also wondering wether it's worth it since i dont really play guitar outside my bedroom lol.

The LPJ is way better man, but not the 2014, the 2013 were more real, they downgraded the pickups in the 2014 line and it's just sad.

Macsk8ing hey my friend ,i can get a 2013 lpj or a 2014 sgj,for the identical price of $500+tax which one do you prefer and why?i was under the assumption the 2014 pickups were BETTER? i definitely prefer the exposed zebra to the plastic covered 490-490 combo, i played the 2013 lpj ,it was mehhh.my 1993 studio kills it so i dont really need a lower end les paul,i also have an epiphone les paul custom and it flat out destroys the 2013 lpj in my humble opinion(my custom has jazz/jb combo) the things i personally liked about the 2014 sgj was the pickups(hotter?)24 fret neck,the fireburst finish,the visual appointments like the headstock and the sound and the fact i have 2 pauls and this is lighter and sounds different.

I can't really say anything about the SGJ because I've never player one, but electronic wise I know the pickups on the 2013 line way better, those pickups that the 2013 has were used in the Gibson LP Standards in the 90's, and the 2014 have some cheap ones Gibson just made up to reduce cost. Sure, they might look better but are not better. Probably the LPJ you play was defective because I got a 2013 LPJ and is it one of the best guitars i've played, it's just so great it beat any Epiphone out of the water, even the elitist models. Everything feels greats and is so resonant. I would not go for any 2014 Gibson because they all sounds cheesy, they changed the 2013 line to reduce cost obviously so that's something to think about.

I really preffer the 2013 LPJ and SGJ pickups, the ones on the 2013 LPJ and SGJ were used by Les Paul Standards on the 90's, they are not some cheap pickups like the 2014 models have in them.

***** No, I'm just saying that these new pickups ARE cheap, cheap does not mean terrible or bad in any way. They are just cheap pickups, that's why they changed them to keep the price point, the 2013 versions has superior pickups and Gibson was not making much profit out of them, hence the drastic change to the 2014 models, they went for cheaper pickups which equals more profit for them but less tone to many of us.

No, rather sharp edges on the fret wire, but the playability more than makes up for it. Not an issue for me. Killer guitar.

What are the main differences between the 2014 model and the 2013 model? Is it really worth paying an extra £100 for the 2014? The main thing at the moment is the fact that the black pickup covers on the 2013 look pretty rubbish.

its the pick ups , 2k13 has 490's I guess and the 2k14 has 61' zebra reissue . I from what Ive seen on Gibson site it says the 61 are a exact copy of the ones made on the 60's plus you have the alnico V which is considered to be one of the best magnets for pick ups
