Brilliant episode. Advanced jumbo is impressive but the Alvarez prototype sounds even more full and warm.

Great video gentlemen. I've always thought that the Alvarez guitar had a sound that fell right between the Gibson and the Martin. With attributes from both brands. Again, that's why I love Alvarez guitars.

Nice listening to you fellers, like a coffee round. Doesn´t get boring

Thanks for another enjoyable video. Two sweet-sounding and gorgeous guitars. The Gibson has a more intimate sound-would be perfect for small gatherings or rooms. The Alvarez Prototype sounds great too, just different. You brought back a memory of when we took our then-teenage son to see Les Paul play in a basement club called Fat Tuesdays in NYC. It was tiny and my son got to talk to Mr. Paul one on one.

Another very informative video. I didn't know all that stuff about Orville and his strange relationship to the company. Do Alvarez make any guitars with a 24.75 scale length? I've got small hands and some pieces on 25.5 inch scale call for some difficult stretches.

One of the defining features of the bracing on the AJ (and the J-35) was that the X bracing was more splayed than the j-45 etc, which opens up the lower bout. I believe some of the original AJs had three tone bars to control that larger area. When Gibsons initially released them to compete with the D-28s, the AJs retailed for $80 as you stated, compared with $100 for the D-28.

Great video, the Gibson has a deep low end rumble, the sound reminds me of Goo Goo Dolls. Can Alvarez Jumbo guitars get close to that low end rumble? Looking forward to seeing more of that prototype.

Thumb #101. Nice to see my favorite mates. Saturday mornings are better with Alvarez! That is a nice guitar but, I would prefer a Porsche. I would give you and the guitar a ride. Cruisin' and groovin'.

@@AlvarezGuitarsOfficial HaHaHa That's great. For now, I'll have to bring my '98 Buick but, you two and 3 Yairis' would be even better. I'll drive with my feet so I can play along. A little dangerous but a whole lot of creativity happens at the edge of a cliff. I really do love my Masterworks and my favorite KZbinrs. Thanks gentlemen!

It’s nice to hear the prototype. I still struggle purchasing a guitar without sitting down and playing it. Wish more stores would have your guitars in stock.

Sweetwater is the way to go if you can't find one locally. You get to pick out the one you prefer and if you try it and it doesn't suit you, returns are as easy as possible. Ask for Greg Titzer. He will be the best customer service person you will ever interact with.

Thanks so much for making and sharing this video. In the past 5 years or so, I've become a big Alvarez fan. I have a 6 string and a 12 string. The Gibson's are not netter. It's sad that the name Gibson, automatically jacks up the price. Like Toyota with cars. My family has been a SUBARU family. Now that I'm 68 years young, I simply don't purchase as many guitars as I have in the past. I made it up to 43. I'm so glad that Alvarez became a great guitar company. I'll beselling off many of my guitars soon, but not my Alvarez. By the way, good job on the video.

I have an DY 53N from 1992...great to learn about these guitars, (on this channel, thanks JP Cormier) so much i did not know.....one side note, (I have been making national tv commercials for 38 years) if my editor put out a video with the identifying supers of the speakers reversed (as they are here) they would not do any more work for me.....

That Gibson has a great tone. I've never like the feel of the neck contour on Gibsons...kind of like a baseball bat.
