The process and time involved in making a 335 is just so laboursome compared to other Gibsons(and any other electrics from other makers), they're a work of art well and truly!!
@joeking433

Basically it's all a matter of what they think a customer will pay for a Gibson guitar and they make the guitar fit that price with the included profit. In the early 1900's a Gibson guitar cost a little less than a Model T Ford which would be about the same price that a Gibson goes for in today's money, around $3000. Guitarists got used to paying a lot for instruments and don't balk at the Gibson prices today because of that. I did a report on the music industry in college and found out that the biggest factor in musical instrument prices was that demand was inelastic. That means that you won't make more profit by lowering prices. This comes about because not everyone has a need or desire to play a musical instrument and your customer base is limited as opposed to a phone or a car where everyone needs or desires one. So high prices will be the norm for guitars. Yeah, there are good $100 guitars but everyone serious about playing guitar will want an expensive guitar.

Rubbish. Indonesian Corts are equal in build quality to American made Gibsons and only need a pickup upgrade to be equal in tone. They cost only a tenth of a Gibson. I compared the original and the Cort and and walked out with the Cort, a beautiful case and a set of Lollar Imperials. I will NEVER buy another Gibson. You can keep your expensive American muck.

@@johnmoyle4195 Rubbish, that's rubbish, never played a good Cort in my life, they're rubbish, pure rubbish, in fact worse than rubbish, wouldn't be seen dead with a Cort if you paid me plus Cort is an acronym for Corroded Old Recycled Trash, we all know that. You can play your Bay City Rollers and Abba tunes on it, go for it, but they're not for serious guitarists, bah humbug.

I just got a Gibson ES-345 in the sixties cherry. The brother of the 335. Man, do I love everything about it! It can do it all. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the T-Type PUPS do and they clean up really nicely when you dial the volume back. I use a Gladio Cornerstone Dual Overdrive pedal and some delay. It does very well with the Dumble Amps tones. I dig the Big Muff sound you used in your demo, I might have to get out my Metal Muff again lol. I can't say enough about how much I love my ES-345. I am only 5ft7 on a good day lol but I don't let my shortness let me down, The guitar is big but It doesn't affect my playing. Big Guitar, Big Sound, and it is also comfortable on the lap. The only thing I can tell people is to give it a try. The Cherry Red is gorgeous.

Nice playing-the ES-335 sounds fantastic. I have 2 335s, a 2016 (actually stamped 2017) figured Lightburst with Burstbucker pickups and a 2018 60s Cherry figured with MHS pickups. I love them both for how they look, but more importantly, for how they sound. I have to adjust how I play when switching from my Fenders (especially my fretting hand), as both have medium C-profile necks and a flatter fretboard radius; but that's not too big a deal. And it is the sound that gets me-my 2 sound different enough for me to justify having 2! Unfortunately, for my pocketbook, that same justification has me on the lookout for a late 90s to early 2000s 335 in Tobacco Burst, with a slim taper neck, dotted fretboard, and '57 Classic pickups. Like many players in this comment section, I just love my 335s!

Love my 335 in Cherry. It’s got fantastic wood grain and the Calibrated T-Top pickups. Mine is one of the early JC era. The thing is I can never let it go! I paid $2100 out the door brand new and you can’t get near a used one for that. Even at 5’6”, I sling it low and play it or sit it in my lap. Great axe.

I purchased a 2021 Gibson 335 60's Cherry Custom during Covid. I wanted the block inlays vs. dots, and the top is prettier. The T top pickups I love. They are bright but not harsh. It can do country, sounds great with rock rthy and lead as it cuts through really nice. By getting my amp treble knob and moving it down to 4 and using the neck pickup, the jazz tone you want is there. It's just wonderful. Use both pickups, and you get the BB king sound. The neck is very comfortable even with the 50's neck. The round neck does help. It looks great and plays great. Its my favorite guitar that I own. It can play any style and sounds great

Soooo…… I own a 2001 Red dot neck with figured maple. Mine came stock with the 57 series pickups which I absolutely love. I own a 2012 Lucille (also with a 57 and a 57+ in the bridge. Truthfully they feel and play near identical to one another except the Lucille is a few ounces heavier and has the varitone switch. Both neck profiles feel the same to me. I love my Gibsons. I have four now. Gibson necks are perfect to me at 24.74 inches from nut to bridge. Fender necks are longer at 25.5 inches. PRS necks come in right in the middle which is one reason why they are popular and feel good. Pickup wise. I love my twin P-90 DC for a whole different style of growl that cuts through the mix easily. The neck is a little thinner. All in all. The ES series are the top of the heap and handle Jazz, Blues, and Rock equally well. Gotta love em’

For a guy with my limited income, I feel that I made a tremendous investment. (After all, you can’t put a price on the joy of making music with an instrument that sounds, feels and looks like it oughta cost twice the price!)

It broke my heart to sell my 1995 es 335, it has to be one of the most versatile guitars, 'take you anywhere' guitar. Back in 1995 I paid the humble sum of £600 brand new offer the shelf. As I said a huge regret and so was in the fortunate position to be able to buy a 20 year old 335. I love this guitar, it takes me to so many places and have no regret paying the 2.5 k to recapture that 335 semi sound I so much enjoyed. IMO one of the most versatile guitars out there and with careful research you can find some real gems.

Having a Gibson 335 I can recommend you buy used and save some $$ if you take the time you will fine a great deal and expect to pay about $2,000 in great condition. If you buy new you will pay $3300-4400 depending on the model so its up to you but always buy from someone you can return and guarantees quality, but don't expect perfection you will have to make sure it is set up on your own and a dig or two wont matter to anyone.

I bought the figured ES-335 from zZounds. Awesome axe! Plays way better than a Les Paul. In my opinion the 335 is the best blues/blues rock guitar in the world, and it's only competition is the new Asian made Guild Starfire VI. Lucky for me I have both, I bought them from zZounds and I can't decide which one I like best. I love both so much that I wish I could play them simultaneously.🙂Btw, I think you play just as good or even better than Rick Beato.

I never thought I’d see the day where I was happy with an epiphone. The Gibson was the goal, but the 335 I wanted would cost me into the higher thousands range. I’m not that kind of guitarist at all. My skill level and bank account don’t justify that kind of purchase. I had one of NYC's best guitar techs set up my epiphone and couldn’t be more satisfied. Maybe in 5 years I’ll sell a bunch of equipment and finally buy that expensive Gibson, but right now I just want to practice and get better.

You would not believe me but I've not yet seen this nor a 345 bodily! My experience with ES Style semis isn’t as long as with Les Paul style models and manufacturers. But what I can say after having played a number of Gibson USA and CS, Tokai, Eastman, Heritage models, is that there can be a huge difference between them, in tone and playing feel. Definitely worth testing and looking left and right, and in different price categories. The by far best I had were 2 64 Gibson Custom models, but I finally landed with a beautiful black Dot model from Tokai, for 25% of the price. Another Tokai - a higher model even - was not that good. Not exactly on the G Custom shop level - these had this special mojo going on - but comes close. The one in the video here also sounds fantastic. And yes I agree, owning a good ES3x5 is a must

I shelled out the $3,499 for a new ES-335--my dream guitar. Since then I've spent $85 on a set-up, and about $50 on a String Butler. The store I brought it to to get set up is a certified Gibson dealer/repair business. My warranty doesn't cover the $85 for the set-up that didn't work. The thing has never been even close to being in tune. After I had it set up, it stayed in tune for approximately one hour, then dropped out and hasn't come back again since. When first purchasing one if these (it cost more than my first car, by the way), you should probably just yank the G string out immediately. You'll never get it in tune or intoned whatsoever. It can go from an in-tune open G to the 1st fret where it becomes some sort of G sharp-sharp-sharp Middle-Eastern semitone, only to plunge back down the scale again at the 5th fret to a shaky C-flat. After tuning, the G can fall as much as a whole step once you give the guitar as few two or three strums. Basically, you can't even finish a bar of music (God forbid an entire song) without going horribly out of tune. How am I supposed to use this thing? I can't record with it: it'll never be in tune with the rest of the recording. And I surely can't play it on stage: they'll throw beer bottles at me after watching me stand up there like an idiot while I try to tune it for 40 minutes.

Yeah, I would go with the Epi in the case of the 335. Gibson is just overpriced.

I just picked up a new one in ebony. I will compare it against my Eastman T486, which I really love but I’m curious if I might love the Gibson more.

I've been looking at one of those t486 guitars. I would love to hear what your thoughts are on the comparison of the two guitars. I'm in the market for a 335 style guitar. It's a toss up between the 486, a gibson and the new gretsch richard fortus that is supposed to do a paf type thing while keeping the gretsch cleans as well. If only I was rich lol

Little sad to see that the 335 no longer has a true ABR-1 with studs going straight into the body. Do you prefer the 61 Burstbuckers over the T-Types ?

I wanted to buy one of these, and went to all three of my local Guitar Centers to audition about a dozen 335s. I wound up buying an Eastman T59/V for $1000+ less and I have to say that in every way except for the name on the headstock the Eastman is a better guitar. If you want a 335-style guitar and you're not hung up on the name on the headstock, you owe it to yourself to check out an Eastman.

It’s hard to get a beautiful tone at volume from the newer ones - from the 90s on - but yes, the 60s and early 70s models live up to the billing. But do you have tens of thousands to spend on a nicely maintained old one, and if so, are you ever going to take it out of the house?

I purchased Gibson 335 【Figured】,not normal 335. I think no worth to buy normal 335, because thin and kind of cheap sound. Deep and wonderful sound is realized by 【figured】and custom shop. Maybe 「Supreme」.

Despite the extra labor, it's still a $500 premium for it's reputation. The 339 doesn't have $500 less wood, but costs that much less, otherwise being the same.

I started out on a epiphone 2016 ES-335 pro. Felt and played amazing. Since then I now have a Gibson ES-355. The epi is amazing and plays just about the same as my Gibson. Only thing the Gibson excels at is fit and finish, overall feel and of course the custom buckers make a major difference. They don’t really cheap out unlike with their les Pauls

The Epiphone 335s are awesome but they just don't beat the Gibsons. I think Epiphone could charge more and Gibson less. Epiphone has shocked me with the quality of their 335s and 339s but Gibson just sounds and plays better.

Why can’t all the other manufacturers who make this style of guitar put a headstock on them that doesn’t look like it belongs on a hockey stick?… Harley Benson are closing in with the HB 35 plus, but not quite there with the quality yet! I guess Gibson are stopping Epiphone getting closer, otherwise everyone would buy Epi,s.

First, I really enjoyed hearing you play! Very nice...No doubt, that is one beautiful guitar in every respect. But...at $3,500, I would at least expect to see bound F holes. Even my Squier Starcaster has them and it's priced at 7X less! Also, if a 335 seems a bit pricey, there are many similar models from Epiphone that will get the job done for far less. Most people in your audience (if you have one) will never know the difference...

I have had both a gibson es335 (which I currently own) and an epiphone equivalent. Altho I did really enjoy the epiphone, my gibson is something special. That being said I was able to find it for 2600 canadian. Great deal.

I don't shy away from that price range in general, but my desire for a 335 wasn't enough to go there. The Epi Inspired serves its purpose, but only after fret level, setup and proper pups. MHS in my case, after surprisingly Duncan '59s didn't do it for me.
