That guitar was an inch of its life from the scrap heap. I'm kind of shocked at how well it turned out. Good work!

Yes, mustard not ketchup on those back braces! Another fantastic job. Liked that dovetail sanding jig. Never thought of that.

Hi Doug, tricky job. @ 10-12, the top may have been replaced at the Gibson factory without removing the neck, which would have covered the tenon. It looks too good to have been done by the idiot who messed up the neck joint. Also, I believe that back in the 60's Gibson sometimes fitted the neck, then the top covering the tenon to some of the J45 > J55 models giving some Luthiers a surprise when trying to do a re-set. It sounds great, it's good to find a Luthier who can play as well as you can, keep it up. Have you ever done a classical Spanish guitar with the slipper neck block joint?

Hi Ken, I didn't find the that the top was covering the tenon joint. Maybe the original top did? Perhaps more than one persons have "worked" on this poor thing. That's my guess. The first guitar I built as a student of William Cumpiano (not a classical style) used a slipper neck joint.
