Enjoyed seeing how you overcame the challenges of fixing a classic vintage bass.

I especially like how you kerfed the back of the heel cap to make it lay flatter so you could get good glue contact.

Yep, that's the trick!

My dad was a huge Beatles fan and when i started playing bass he tried to talk me into letting him buy me a hofner. Don't get me wrong I am a big Beatles fan and Paul is awesome bassist but i didn't want 1!!!! They are very iconic because of Paul!!! I'm halfway through the repair but i am sure it'll be a successful great job!!!! I did think it was pretty damn cool that Paul was able to finally get his stolen bass back after so long...

Fantastic work as always, Doug. I nearly had heart failure when that neck popped off at 4:50 !

You and me both! But then I was glad. Steaming necks off usually mean extra finish work and was glad to skip that step!

This is the first video of yours, and due to noticing your license plate on the wall, I looked online and sure enough, seems you're in Manchester. I'm not too far south of Nashua. Good to know there's other luthiers within a hundred miles of me.

Another excellent video. I wonder how much those old Hofners would be worth today if Paul had never played one. I know they weren't particularly high quality instruments in comparison to some of their American counterparts, so it would be interesting if the 500/1 never came to be known as the "Beatle Bass".

Thanks you. Yes, they probably would have passed into obscurity!

Did your heart skip a beat when that neck popped off? I know mine did!
@dougmaccormack94856 ай бұрын
Yes! But then I was glad because steaming can create a lot of extra touch up work!

When the neck fell off, I thought the guitar broke or fell off something...😅
@dougmaccormack94855 ай бұрын
Took me by surprise for sure. Then I was pleased that I didn't have to steam it off!

Doug when was this guitar built?
@dougmaccormack94856 ай бұрын
My guess is between 1966-67 based on the pickup style.
