The L-00 standard has a livelier sound and looks like it would be fun to play.

I got my L-00 TV from Parkway, Love it! Thanks for not just playing blues, these guitars are so much more then that.

I actually prefer the sound of the standard between these 2 guitars. Both are killer tho.

A very good comparison, including the specification differences. It is good you play essentially the EXACT same tunes for each and that you each play them.

Good demo - actually I prefer the standard!

The standard will naturally age and keep getting better. I like Adirondack wood tops in general but the vintage is definitely louder. There’s always the Gibson blues king for a slightly thinner Vintage version of the 00 as well which has a built in transducer.

Boy....The vintage broke away on top on the Picking tune , I could hear a huge difference in overall sound especially the Low E string.at the end. Damn nice .

These guitars sound great! I had a Martin CEO-7 but these sound better to my ear. Not sure which I like better though. I like the way the leads and finger picking sound on the vintage but I like the strumming better on the standard. I'll take both! Haha!
@frankmormon25034 жыл бұрын
Actually Sitka has a higher stiffness than red spruce, don’t know what changes with torrification. They both offer beautiful tone and overtones. The torrification is supposed to increase the overtones.... great guitars though , both !!!

Nice video! That standard really cut through🎸
@Ledzepfan882 жыл бұрын
Now days they have the original collection, looks like the "vintage" but binding on top and back. Not sure where I read it but the standard appears to have torrefied sitka , if this is in fact the case I'm curious if the original series L00 has the same. Sounds like the perfect couch guitar. An old fashioned sound for sure.

Very cool review and demo. I am curious what kind of neck profile the standard has. You mentioned the Vintage having a V shaped neck. Thanks!
@ParkwayMusic8 жыл бұрын
Thanks JJ! The Standard has a more modern, slim tapered neck compared to the Vintage.
@jjboogie18 жыл бұрын
So is it a thin neck? Or is more a medium size? Sorry! Gonna go try one out today. I am not a fan of thin necks but then again my old OM28V was way to thick up higher were the neck meets the body. :-)
@ParkwayMusic8 жыл бұрын
It's a standard modern C profile neck, similar to a J-45. Definitely not thick but not thin either.

Vintage is better for picking but the Standard has a more modern sound which I think I prefer. You guys should check out the Martin CEO7 it has a red spruce(adirondack) top as well. And to my ears sounds better than this Gibson

I have the L-00 Vintage a wonderfully well made guitar with an incredible tone and volume on open chords. For the price though I find the playability only average. The strings are fairly high off the neck and the tension of the strings is fairly tight. Is this standard for this type of guitar is it a guitar you have to work with or do you think it needs a pro setup. I should add I am mostly an electric player but have a cheaper Martin dreadnought that plays far more comfortably so am not averse to acoustics. Cheers
@reallyburgers6 жыл бұрын
every guitar can benefit from a setup..I have a bourgeois OM that was super easy to play...when my Martin D18 arrived, it sounded great but playability was nowhere close to the bourgeois...a professional set up changed al that..the D-18 plays as easy as the OM!!
@michaelashe52655 жыл бұрын
Great question. I just played a Standard at GC and noticed that action was a tad high. Did you ever have yours adjusted? I bet medium gauge strings would sound AMAZING on one of these guitars although the playability would suffer.

The tuners on the Vintage look cheap. But are they high quality? Do they hold their tune as effectively as the modern Grovers?
@johnreidroberts28385 жыл бұрын
N M to be fair the Vintage tuners are made as if the guitar was from the 30’s. That being said L-00’s from the 30’s were the cheapest of Gibson’s L-series guitars. Also note most of Gibson’s acoustics except the Advanced Jumbo, in the 30’s had the same tuners. These were used to help cut cost during the depression. The absence of back binding on the L-00’s was another cost cutting solution. The tuners themselves work just fine. Some even say they allow the guitar to ring out slightly more than the heavier Grover’s.
