I bought a white one in 2013, I still have it and let me tell you, it's a bruiser... a proper Rock n Roll machine, tough as old boots and fitted standard with the 490r/498t - Basically a Studio/Custom without the bling, and better for it. Mine was £599 new from Dawsons in Huddersfield (gone now) - Cheers for the vids!

Hi The Voosters :-) They're brilliant, aren't they? Proper workhorse and I enjoyed the baseball bat neck. I love white guitars, they remind me of Glam Rock for some reason. More 6 string tomfoolery on the way! Cheers, Gary:-)

I've got a 50's neck, well actually I've got a 65 year old's neck, but I have a LP with one, which surprisingly I quite like. This one for some strange reason reminded me of Mick Ronson, heaven knows why as he never had one like it.
@FoxysGuitarShow3 жыл бұрын
Hahahahaha, that's so funny. I rather suspected that we may be a similar vintage. Yeah, Mick Ronson - I was a bit of fan in the Bowie days but it stopped for me when he started singing - bless him. Speaking of age, my stateside cousin has recently made a rock song on which I appear. It's on here - An Ocean Away and the tune's called Airwaves. Anyways, he's put this effect on it and I look 40 again! Now I need to work out how I can go about my daily business in his tricksy video format :-)

Absolutely lickable in Gibson's very own Chocolate flavour and plays so much better than I thought it would. Sonically, it reminds me a bit of my Flying V which one can hear old Roxy playing on one of my USA cousin's tunes and it's here on KZbin by An Ocean Away and the tune's called Airwaves.

The secret is out, Gibson, made these LPJ s in 2013 they just don't have binding, they were cheaper than the studio, but they have the same hardware, Same pup's as the others the 490&498 .
@FoxysGuitarShow Жыл бұрын
Hi Leah :-) Yes, yes, yes - I love the 490 series pickups. Apparently, the J in these chaps is for Juszkiewicz. He was the CEO at the time of manufacture. I did ask Gibson directly what the 'J' was for and they said "Err, dunno". Very helpful. So yes, a pared to the bone, no frills version of a Studio with a maple neck. I have a particular fondness for those chunky baseball bat necks. We've got a 2014 one coming up soon that I had to source proper Gibson pickups for as the originals had been replaced with a pair of £30 Iron Gear things - grrrrr. Cheers, Gary :-)

thanks for the demo, just pointing out that LPJs are not LP juniors. I have the exact same one (LPJ model prior to the 2014 revamp) and it's a really cool guitar
@FoxysGuitarShow3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes I've had this pointed out a couple of times before and there's much debate out there around what the 'J' actually stands for. Anderton's Music Shop asserts it stands for Junior, as do many others and as you'll know, it doesn't tell you in Gibson Catalogue or even on the official promo video. The other theory is that it stands for Juszkiewicz who was the CEO of the company at the time these were produced. I guess it could just have been a convenient random letter they had knocking about on their silkscreen equipment but I recall reading in some Gibson literature that Junior was the nomenclature given to budget or 'student' instruments and seeing as this was the lowest price Les Paul at the time, it seems to make sense. So I completely understand what you mean and if you know what the 'J' stands for I'd be really keen to learn. I should send Gibson an email to find out :-)

Very nice. Unfortunately I have to be okay with my LPSpecial. It’s got the fat 50s neck, and now it’s all I want to play. You get a good sound from those pickups, whatever they are called. To me, all the hb pickups are very similar. I have an old Ibanez with the Super 58s,

I think that Gibson LPJ does not stand for Les Paul Junior just Gibson LPJ(I have one myself and the Gibson Les Paul Jr. has only one humbucker while the Gibson LPJ has only two humbuckers)

Hi KJ :-) Yes, you're quite right. The J is for Juszkiewicz apparently. This was the name of the CEO at the time these were produced. Cheers, Gary :-)

@FoxysGuitarShow Жыл бұрын
Hi Polyphonic :-) You're 100% correct here. At the time of recording I'd watched the Anderton's review which stated it was a Junior. It famously turns out the the J in the name stands for Jusciewicz which was the name of the CEO at the time. Cheers, Gary

@@FoxysGuitarShow Interesting, I didn't know that. So how do you like it? I was thinking about buying one but he's asking $750 USD and it seems like many people have gotten them for around $400 USD. Thoughts?
@FoxysGuitarShow Жыл бұрын
I thought it was brilliant but you need to like a baseball bat neck. $750 sounds a little steep unless it's from a reputable dealer and although I've seen them change hands for around the £500 mark that's usually sight unseen from a private seller on eBay. I bought one last year and the Gibson pickups had been taken and pair of £30 Teslas went in there so just be careful. Cheers, Gary :-)

LPJ it's not the same as Les Paul Junior, jr only have 1 pickup (p90). LPJ are low end gibson models
@FoxysGuitarShow3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but that's what Gibson called them. Apparently, the nomenclature 'Junior' simply indicates a budget priced Gibson (if there is such a thing) and the research I've done indicates that the J in LPJ is actually for Junior :-)
@ChanoQlo3 жыл бұрын
@@FoxysGuitarShow you may want to do your researches again, the J in the LPJ does not stand for Junior, it's like the LPM, SGX, etc, just a letter. Again, the juniors have only 1 pickup. LPJ has 2 humbuckers, it's more related to a Studio than a Junior
@JuskoLord2472 жыл бұрын
@@ChanoQlo The "J" on the LPJ stands for junior. Not junior in size but junior for the price.These guitars are made as a budget instrument.

@@ChanoQlo the junior stands for affordable guitar in both of them. First with the p90 one, and in 2013 for this one, since they decided to put an affordable one out there again. So they indeed are both juniors, but not the same.
@ChanoQlo2 жыл бұрын
@@decaenofficial once again, Junior is not the same as LPJ, these are more similar to the LPM in terms of quality and construction. When Gibson wants to refer to a Junior they don't use the letter J, they literally put Junior in the name.
