I've had success in removing bushings by putting a short slug in the bottom, short enough to start a few turns of the post then using an old post or a bolt that threads in, screw the bolt in until the bushing gets pushed up.

One of my band mates who plays guitar owns a Ripper bass. He inherited it from his grandfather. I as the bass player get to play it often in place of my Getty Lee signature Jazz Bass. The 4 way switch only works in 1 and 4 position. The bass is noticeably heavy... a long night of jamming will wear your back out. But it is the deepest and “bassiest” bass I ever played. It has amazing tone. I put a set of cobalt flat wounds on it which are extremely playable and virtually friction free. It’s a quirky and odd bass... but one I enjoy playing very much.👍🥃

So many tone options. I had one of these for a little while back in the day (1977). Fiddled with it until I found a sound I liked and only touched the volume knob thereafter. Ended up in a pawn shop.

Hey Dave there is a website with data for all major string brands on actual ball to taper/silk for each stated scale length. I'm not sure if tube will let me post link but it'll be the first result in search if you enter 'fretnation bass string lengths by manufacturer'. They seem to update the list on occasion if they get corrections or new information as well. The data puts a fine point on the lack of standardization on this. For instance, 'long scale' varies by as much as 1.5" between brands!

Putting a Jazzcaster with parts from Warmoth and Solo. Roasted ash body and roasted maple neck. Neck doesn’t need finish. Beeswax on the body though. Fine wool to smooth out the Beeswax finish. Turned out real nice. Even I’m surprised. Admittedly that does not take much. 🤣🎸✌️🍻

The reason you had a problem with the bridge studs is because they are threaded bushings....they screw in, not pressed in.
@Aceroxx02
@Aceroxx02 4 жыл бұрын
Provided the wood isn't too soft, you can drop a small screw into the bushing (head down) so it touches the wood through the hole at the bottom. Then screw the stud in. The stud hits the screw and pushes the bushing up out of the body. Unless of course someone decided to glue or epoxy it in there. Then you're pretty much stuck.

Hey Dave just an FYI ... i just set up a Warwick 35" scale neck bass and DR (Pure Blues) standard Long scale bass strings are actually as long as most other brands "extra/super long scale" sets... the ball to taper length (38") is much longer than E Ball/Daddario/Elixir ling scale ... should be great on the Ripper?
@offbeatbassgear
@offbeatbassgear 4 жыл бұрын
That's good information, actually, I have a five string Rob Allen 35" scale string through body bass, and I've been using these LaBella Five String super longs that cost sixty three dollars shipped. I might look at the DR Blues as an alternative..

It’s not two volumes Dave. The knobs are: master volume, passive mid choke, master tone. The switch positions are: both in parallel, bridge only; both in series; both out-of-phase. Bill Lawrence designed unique pickups and an equally unique harness for the Ripper. There’s nothing else like it out there.

I had a Ripper Fretless in black with an ebony fingerboard. The neck was as big around as a telephone pole. It hurt my hand and forearms to play it and I'm a big/tall guy. My memory of the multi-position switch was that each setting sounded all muddy. I only owned it about 5 - 6 months and traded it and money for another fretless made of warmoth parts that I had custom built
