The hockey stick headstock reminds me of the Hamers Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick played. I see people are knocking this guitar and I understand why but can we all agree that it's great that new models keep coming onto the market. Guitar sales aren't what they used to be because a lot kids today want to make their 'music' on computers. Let's all keep buying guitars and accessories thus keeping our cult alive. Oh and a message to Andertons, please will you offer Klarna as a payment option? I bought a guitar from a rival last week, simply because they offered Klarna's 3 monthly payments and you didn't. I'd rather buy from you guys because I like and appreciate these videos. Good luck everyone!

The only player I know of who uses/used a Gibson Victory was Danny Coralles who plays in the old school death metal band Autopsy and was also the guitarist for Abscess. He uses a blue Gibson Victory with a Kahler trem system. I think these are great but I can't help but the lack of trem system puts me right off. I think they are kinda cool but honestly i would guess for most people a gibson is a huge purchase, once in a lifetime for alot. For that reason people want one of the big 3 (les paul, sg or 335) when they do buy. Thats why these are going to fail. And to be fair if you have to have an 80's metal guitar with gibson on the headstock how can you look past Explorer or flying v.

@Pizvo
@Pizvo 27 күн бұрын
Well that's kind of the thing - every guitar company on the planet makes a superstrat with a floyd or a tremolo. Gibson has no chance in that market at all. This thing however is a bit unique. You don't really have a lot of fixed bridge superstrats (that aren't one piece hipshot bridges) on the market. And Gibson fans don't really care for tremolo bridges anyway. I see it more as a stab at PRS McCarty that proved to be a really popular design in the last few years - a more ergonomic guitar that still offers the sonic ballpark of a LP.

I quite like it. Something different after all this time of endless Les Pauls, SGs, and Explorers (and Vs, sure). But I wish that they had made the headstock a little straighter. Not straight, but a little less droopy and perhaps let the strings run straight to the posts, only that much straighter. - And the pickguards don't help the look. I think either a better shaped pickguard, as well as a nicer color than just plain black with a white edge, or just no pickguard at all, would make them look a LOT better. - It's all in the details that makes the whole. - But other than those few things, really nice.

Looks like I'm in the minority by browsing the comments but I love these! For me too I love coil=split options. It's such an inexpensive thing to include and it makes a guitar much more versatile. I always feel that if the pickup in a guitar has wiring to allow splitting, just include that option standard. If people hate it they never have to use it, but at least some of us like it. Truthfully for me it's almost always a deal-breaker these days if coil-splitting isn't included. Or it at least knocks a guitar down my list if the option isn't included.

Most ALL split humbuckers sound that way. Saying they sound like your regular standard single coils, in most cases, was never really right. BUT, they have their usefulness. When you wanna sound a bit "acoustic-ish" they can have a pretty sound if you have an amp or pedal setting that will enhance that tone, often specially on the mid position... think like the Hotone Omni AC for instance ... and you don't need 2 guitars for a live gig. It's just "different", just think of it this way, definitely jangly.
@robertworboys9944
@robertworboys9944 17 күн бұрын
I find that split humbuckers vary in quality considerably. I find the high output humbuckers tend to not split as well but there are notable exceptions. Funny enough, one of the best splitting humbuckers I've ever tried was one that by default, cannot be split without modification. But the Slash Duncan's sound fantastic if you're brave enough to give em the 4 conductor wiring needed
@TheWorstManOnEarth
@TheWorstManOnEarth 17 күн бұрын
@@robertworboys9944 I didn't know that trick. The "thing" with a humbucker is the overall architecture of the pickup and the way the magnetic field spreads and interacts. It's so different. I mean, they tried hard for nearly half of a century, didn't they?
@robertworboys9944
@robertworboys9944 17 күн бұрын
@@TheWorstManOnEarth it IS different. But for my uses, I don't have time between songs to switch guitars, sometimes I even need a single coil sound immediately due to a medley or something. So coil splits are my go to. My main sound is humbuckers based, but if I'm doing some Nile Rodgers esque stuff? I'm splitting that neck pickup. I think it helps that my rig is dialed in for it. So that it sounds good for both sounds. For me, coil splits are an easier way for me to get a single coil sound rather than trying to flatten up a single coil. But that comes with my personal bias of really loving my Les Paul so you know haha In that subject, Seymour Duncan makes the stag mag that is an all slug bucket which they claim does a col split more authentically? I've not heard it though. Imo, the best guitar/pickup is the one you personally like the most haha

@@robertworboys9944 Is your preference 25.5 scale or 24.75 ? 'Cause with a Strat with a big rectangular cavity there are lots of options (sometimes not very "pretty" though). Like on a fresh pickguard having the neck humbucker and a single coil close to each other ... of course the position also changes the tone, but that can also be a solution, I suppose.

The problem for many people with this guitar’s design is not that it is different, it’s that people it is ugly. There is just no consistency in the proportions, which for most Gibson players and fans is important. For some reason Gibson‘s aesthetic design execution is just a little off compared to Fender. When Fender does a new shape it still bears a family resemblance and has relatively graceful lines, like the Meteora, the Lead, or the Toronado. But for some reason when Gibson does this, they get the Theodore, the Moderne, or this thing. Still, I applaud them for trying and it sounds killer. But got to work on having better flowing lines and leave this stuff to Kramer line Fender does with Jackson.

They have a great tone. The headstock is a deal breaker for me though. Maybe it will grow on me.

6:03 - They should've gone with a Wilkinson or something that is NOT annoying to deal with then. You know, with saddles that can be adjusted on the fly, because Floyd Rose doesn't believe in such black magic.

...Or, buy a Fender tele with humbuckers, or a fat-strat for cheaper, and it will stay in tune too! (Or one of the many wonderful Squire guitars, and again, enjoy the tuning stability and workman like construction that will probably last a lifetime.)

Pretty cool imo. I think the smarmy comments and complaints are mostly from the crowd that thinks Gibson should only be making detail specific '59 Les Paul replicas. This isn't anything like the Firebird thing that looked awful and got run over by the company itself. It's a slightly Strat shaped guitar and people are losing their minds over it. LOL. People are strange (and really like bandwagons).

I've owned 4-5 of these guitars and basses from the 80's. They weren't great then and I can't imagine these are better. There is a reason it was short lived then. I hope they weigh a little less than the 80's models did...boat anchors.

I’m at the intro scanning comments and I’m “different”. But mom loves me, so it’s okay. But my guitar selection goes 1 no trem, fixed bridge 2 good body design because most are boring or un-weird …and this doesn’t nail it… headstock weird, body shape fine, but nothing like the beautiful kaizen for instance. Still sounds like great guitars and better than the standard boring shapes, that’s true…

Hmmmmmm......I am torn on this guitar. The 80s metal-head guitar player still lurking inside me says, "Heck Yeah!" However, the more practical guitar player in me these days thinks Gibson just took their Kramer guitar line (Gibson owns Kramer now), put a few bells and whistles on the guitars, jacked up the price (of course they did, it is Gibson after all), and said, "Here is a guitar for those 50-something nostalgic "professionals" that can afford to re-live (or start anew) their guitar playing heyday." There are so many other really great guitars on the market that look just like this guitar and play just as good or even better. Sorry, but I will have to take a hard pass on this guitar, as I already own many of those other great guitars. I am not a Gibson "hater" either, as I do own a Les Paul Custom, as part of my ever-growing guitar collection, that I play quite regularly, and I really like it a lot. 🤔

Gibson could have an introductory promotion - the choice of a leather vest or leather pants that lace up on the sides of the legs. They should leave these to Kramer or Jackson!

That's the new Gibson logic for you. Bring back a prior guitar model that no one wanted and hope that for some strange reason they'll be able to sell them in todays market. Just goes to show you that folks have short memories and there is no accounting for poor taste.
