I quite like it. Something different after all this time of endless Les Pauls, SGs, and Explorers (and Vs, sure). But I wish that they had made the headstock a little straighter. Not straight, but a little less droopy and perhaps let the strings run straight to the posts, only that much straighter. - And the pickguards don't help the look. I think either a better shaped pickguard, as well as a nicer color than just plain black with a white edge, or just no pickguard at all, would make them look a LOT better. - It's all in the details that makes the whole. - But other than those few things, really nice.

The tune o matic has tons of sustain and resonance. Also with a trem syatem especially a Floyd you can't put the bridge pickup that close to the saddles where you have the most harmonic richness
@Pizvo2 ай бұрын
Well that's kind of the thing - every guitar company on the planet makes a superstrat with a floyd or a tremolo. Gibson has no chance in that market at all. This thing however is a bit unique. You don't really have a lot of fixed bridge superstrats (that aren't one piece hipshot bridges) on the market. And Gibson fans don't really care for tremolo bridges anyway. I see it more as a stab at PRS McCarty that proved to be a really popular design in the last few years - a more ergonomic guitar that still offers the sonic ballpark of a LP.

Most ALL split humbuckers sound that way. Saying they sound like your regular standard single coils, in most cases, was never really right. BUT, they have their usefulness. When you wanna sound a bit "acoustic-ish" they can have a pretty sound if you have an amp or pedal setting that will enhance that tone, often specially on the mid position... think like the Hotone Omni AC for instance ... and you don't need 2 guitars for a live gig. It's just "different", just think of it this way, definitely jangly.
@robertworboys99442 ай бұрын
I find that split humbuckers vary in quality considerably. I find the high output humbuckers tend to not split as well but there are notable exceptions. Funny enough, one of the best splitting humbuckers I've ever tried was one that by default, cannot be split without modification. But the Slash Duncan's sound fantastic if you're brave enough to give em the 4 conductor wiring needed
@TheWorstManOnEarth2 ай бұрын
@@robertworboys9944 I didn't know that trick. The "thing" with a humbucker is the overall architecture of the pickup and the way the magnetic field spreads and interacts. It's so different. I mean, they tried hard for nearly half of a century, didn't they?
@robertworboys99442 ай бұрын
@@TheWorstManOnEarth it IS different. But for my uses, I don't have time between songs to switch guitars, sometimes I even need a single coil sound immediately due to a medley or something. So coil splits are my go to. My main sound is humbuckers based, but if I'm doing some Nile Rodgers esque stuff? I'm splitting that neck pickup. I think it helps that my rig is dialed in for it. So that it sounds good for both sounds. For me, coil splits are an easier way for me to get a single coil sound rather than trying to flatten up a single coil. But that comes with my personal bias of really loving my Les Paul so you know haha In that subject, Seymour Duncan makes the stag mag that is an all slug bucket which they claim does a col split more authentically? I've not heard it though. Imo, the best guitar/pickup is the one you personally like the most haha
@TheWorstManOnEarth2 ай бұрын
@@robertworboys9944 Is your preference 25.5 scale or 24.75 ? 'Cause with a Strat with a big rectangular cavity there are lots of options (sometimes not very "pretty" though). Like on a fresh pickguard having the neck humbucker and a single coil close to each other ... of course the position also changes the tone, but that can also be a solution, I suppose.

Looks like I'm in the minority by browsing the comments but I love these! For me too I love coil=split options. It's such an inexpensive thing to include and it makes a guitar much more versatile. I always feel that if the pickup in a guitar has wiring to allow splitting, just include that option standard. If people hate it they never have to use it, but at least some of us like it. Truthfully for me it's almost always a deal-breaker these days if coil-splitting isn't included. Or it at least knocks a guitar down my list if the option isn't included.
