The book “Kalamazoo Gals” by John Thomas is an excellent book detailing all the women who made the Gibson Banner guitars during WWII. Highly recommended book.

Kalamazoo Gals is a wonderful book written by John Thomas who dug out the history of these ladies making guitars during the war despite a lot of resistance. But for his diligence this history would have been lost to the public.

Nice to see a token mention of the women Gibson leaned heavily on for its survival, but they were known as the Kalamazoo Gals, NOT the Gibson gals, and they're well-documented in John Thomas' book of the same name - fascinating read. The fact is, there's a compelling case that Gibson tried to keep this quiet out of its typical brand image paranoia. At least it's finally starting to acknowledge their contribution - some of the best-sounding acoustics to ever come from Gibson.

I was in Greensboro NC a few decades ago and came across a used intrument shop. They were a Martin repair shop so I knew it was a fine shop. There was a 67 J45 on the wall. It was checked and glorious. I picked it up and strummed it. I almost lost my mind. That instrument sounded like little golden chariots flying down from Olympus. What an amazing instrument. It was out of my range at the time but I hope it found a good home.

"Gibson Gals" they were not called, no paraphrasing needed. Kalamazoo Gals is the title of the book that, not only documents that era but it is a good lesson in American history as well as tracing the origins of the great founder, Orville Gibson. What a great read and what a pity to not being mentioned rightfully and respectfully.

The book ‘Kalamazoo Gals’ by John Thomas is the first reveal of the actual WWll history of Gibson & proves beyond doubt that a Woman workforce built the guitars in Kalamazoo throughout the War.

Well, inconsistency is the only thing consistent at Gibson!!! I reckon they treat their female employees just like the Kalamazoo Gals "Good Enough" to make a profit.

From what I understand the story of these women who made guitars during the second world war for Gibson was unearthed by John Thomas who wrote a book called Kalamazoo Gals. John put his heart and soul into this story, travelling to Michigan to meet two of the Kalamazoo Gals that were still alive at that time. I find it really unfortunate that Gibson chose to rename them Gibson Gals in this video with no reference to John or his work.

men and women are different and have different strengths and weaknesses... one area I've noticed women tend to dominate is in the fine motor skill/patience type work... you always see them in manufacturing like this all across the world and in different fields... Just like men are the ones putting roofs up, building the power grid and putting up sky scrapers.

What? 'Gibson Girls'? You just made that up, and I see that you haven't addressed this mistake since the video was posted 1 1/2 weeks ago... Now why on earth would you pull that out of your ass? ...and now as a result of your weird supppression and misrepresentation of one of your sources, your comment section is full of people properly crediting John Thomas and his book 'Kalamazoo Gals' while calling out your inexplicable distortion. Was this just a mistake, or are you embassassed by your heritage, or do you have something against Kalamazoo, or Mr. Thomas?
