Gideon Pocket New Testament w/ Psalms & Proverbs

I love these. I am Roman Catholic and can't remember how I got a hold of one, but I had the orange one and kept it in my pants pocket daily for maybe a year or more. That little bible pulled me through a very hard time in my life. I would just open to the psalms and read through as my night time prayer.

This popped up on my video feed and I thought it was uncanny because today, while cleaning out a box of stuff I came across my Gideon pocket New Testaments with Psalms & Proverbs. I had written my name and the date when I received it on the inside. Dated 10-27-1983. Must be a sign that I need to delve into it again. I plan on adding it to my daily reading plan. Thanks for sharing.

I love the premise of your channel. New Bibles are so very expensive. Buying one at a thrift store is an attainable option for people. Plus, one can find nice, used Bibles there.

My favorite Gideon memory is that once a year the Gideons stood in front of our seminary trying to hand out these NTs to students. Just for the record, we were learning how to read the Bible...in Greek and Hebrew...there. They cracked me up every year. And I love your review. Best use of a tape measure in a Bible review ever.

I appreciate the concept of this channel. I was given a new testament at my elementary school by the Gideons in 1972. A couple times, they were handing them out at my university after class registration (ca 1979-1982). I have 3 KJV and one Revised Berkeley Version (a version I was otherwise unfamiliar with). Still have all of them.

Sure! I do most of my reading in the NRSV. The NKJV also sees a lot of use and for me complements the NRSV well. In addition I use the NLT, KJV and Alter's Hebrew Bible regularly. I do reference some other translations including the ESV and NASB.

I have a local goodwill here in my city where I live, and I found a Gideons pocket NT w/ ps+Prv in HARDCOVER. I have NEVER seen a Gideons pocket Bible in hardcover in my entire life so I bought it right away for 50 cents. It's in immaculate condition in dark blue with gold lettering on the cover + spine, also has gold gilded pages. I take it with me on the road when I know I'll be stuck in the car or in an appointment. Translations don't really matter to me because that's why The Lord gave us the spirit of discernment, so regardless of whatever translation you prefer, don't let a lukewarm Bible pharisee tell you otherwise, because that's what the devil wants, he want's to create strife through foolish arguments. "Paraphrased" bibles are the only ones I stay far away from.

@@ThriftStoreBibles I'm beginning to think it may be a custom Gideon Bible, because I cannot find any info online about it, not even in google images. It's a 2008 edition pocket Bible, dark blue hardcover. I think it may be one of a kind.

@@ThriftStoreBibles Either that, or Gideon's made a hardcover edition pocket Bible for a donor or a Gideon's member. Either way, There is nothing on the internet on this little hardcover Bible, and I've looked. If you ever happen to find one, get it because they are rare.

@@RichieIsuppose The Gideons themselves are Protestants, however the Bibles they distribute contain the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs which are the same for both. Hope that helps!

They are not specifically Catholic, but they only contain the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs which do not vary between Catholic and Protestant denominations. Hope that helps!
