In ancient warfare there was one torch bearer for every 20 or 30 troops. So when the Midianites saw 300 torches, they figured the whole place was seething with 6000 to 9000 (plus) attackers. This was a brilliant strategy. It may even have been the same ratio with the trumpet players. Brilliant strategy.

I don’t think God doesn’t want us to forget him. We should thank him for giving us a conscious to embrace and endure the struggles of Lucifer’s influence. I need to still believe that he can bless more than man cannot. The timing might be spiritually good. Our prayers are what embraces his love back on what is done on heaven.

An interesting perspective. I would think that from a Jewish perspective however, 300 men who did not suck the water directly from the stream meant that they regarded Torah Law and would have had the presence of mind not to let any unclean organism that might be floating/swimming in the water to enter into their mouths by taking small handfulls of water and checking each time to make sure that there was nothing unclean in the water in their hand before they drank.
