I am from Minnesota and grew up with this saw using it in the BWCA (Boundary Water Canoe Area). Love the saw, it has never failed me, and it cuts great. I have made a lot of firewood with the 21" version I have.

I've been using this saw (21inch) for 2 years now, best saw ever. You save so much time and energy with this saw.

it's a sven-saw, not a seven-saw... i have both of them, the 15 and the 20 and have used them for over 20 years now. it's an old design but it still works really well for any woodcutting a camper or backpacker would need to do and they're perfect for that. it's not meant for building log cabins, it's made for cutting firewood that is too thick to break with your arms and legs.

Yeah this product has been on my wish list for a little while haven't decided on the size whether I want the smaller or the larger version but it's great that you able to do this so I can get a better idea what to get

Nice review gideonstactical. I think I'll buy one to take with me hiking on days I'm planning to process firewood, which seems like most days. I really can't see it as a replacement for my laplander. Heck I tote that little 7 inch saw around camp all the time and flip it open like a spyderco tenacious when I need it. Plus I can stick that laplander in some really tight quarters because of the design. Overall though yeah as you just nicely demonstrated, the 15 inch sven saw blows away my little laplander on processing capability vs energy consumption and deserves to go for a ride in my pack for the heavy work.

I have one and love it. Mine is 21" version. I may get the 15 for backpacking as the 21" is a bit long for the pack. I used the 15" version that a guy had in camp on the Superior Hiking Trail and I really liked it. I prefer the 21", but for the ease of packing the 15" was pretty awesome.

Great video! One thing I noticed in the video with the saw is, when you try and saw anything bigger then 4" or so. When doing so, it looked like the acute angle of the saw starts to raise the blade leaving you with little blade to work with. Any chance you can do a video comparing this saw with a bow saw?

Another great review Aaron... I've been waiting on a good review of the Sven Saw. My wife and I have Bahco Laplanders in our "get-home" and light packing kits, and Sven Saws in our larger kits. We really like them both. Have processed storm damaged wood in the backyard with both, and have hiked with both. If I had to give up something else from my pack, I'd carry both of these...and all of the time. There are things that the Sven cannot to do as well as the Laplander, as you have said. My ultimate kit?... the big side-carried chopping knife, the Sven, the Bahco and a good companion knife. Unless I was going to build a castle out of full sized trees... I'd leave the much heavier axe/hatchet at home to save on weight. Thank you.We really enjoy your review videos.

In you assembly instructions you had the red handle backwards. There is a little slot that the blade goes into and it allows you to tight the wingnut until the shoulder of the nut is flush with the handle. It's more stable if you do it that way. No blade twist.
@neversinkoutdoors9 жыл бұрын
Swedish steel strikes again! Thanks for the video. I may have to pick one up to carry instead of a Bahco (or Silky)... Also-and my apologies if I already noted this in a different comment-but the "c" in Bahco is a hard "c" as in "cat."

Really good job. I think some other reviewers don't know what the hell they're doing. A full buck saw would cut bigger pieces, but the Sven can reach smaller places for fallen stuff. I think the only drawback is the wingnut. But at that price, I'm sold.
@Bushchannel9 жыл бұрын
One thing I've never seen anyone mention about the Bahco folding saw is the annoying fact that replacement blades are almost as expensive as a whole new saw ;-( The Bahco blades go blunt real fast cause they're only small and you're forced to do a lot of repetitions to get through a log. Like most modern saw blades Bahco blades can't be sharpened because they're made from a hardened steel, so once they go dull u really just have to buy a whole new one.
@gideonstactical9 жыл бұрын
Bush Channel That part is very annoying about the bahco.

Wish you could still get the sawvivor..it blows the sven out of the water. That being said, you can't beat a bucksaw blade fort processing firewood. Im still using my sawvivor, but have a coghlan's for backup. It's a little easier setup than the sven, and cuts just as good. Also, no loose pays like a wrongly to lose in the back country. Made in canada. Would prefer to see it made in the us, but still beats China.

So today I went on to amazon and ordered a Sven Saw for $22 then I stopped over to youtube and your video was at the top of my queue... I was like that's strange... great minds think a like...LOL I still love my bahco but I agree this is the tool for processing higher volumes of fire wood and building a camp. Which is exactly what I need it for. Had a chance to use my buddies last week and I was tearing through 4-6" white pine in awe.... Have you looked at the 21" EKA Knives Viking Combi-Saw too much $$$ for me but I would love to see a review on it. Of course another great and fair video by you!

Triangular saws don't make sense to me. The more the diameter of a log increases the more the length of stroke is diminished. They're only efficient with small diameter logs.
@newhampshirebound85519 жыл бұрын
+05generic But in practice it worked, he got in deep on the video. It's not a total compromise thought, because the triangle fits in places the full buck saw won't. He did a good job showing this in the video too.
@MNgunhead8 жыл бұрын
Use one and you'll be impressed. I agree with your comments though. It's just a trade off for the packability. If size and weight wasn't an issue, a true bow saw is definately better.

give me a silky every time i have try ed both and the seven -saw sucks in hard wet wood or in snow silky will not + the seven saw has more parts to get lost just stating a fact here

nice review but, I am not a fan of this saw. There are better options
@lecturer098 жыл бұрын
Its not a Seven saw its a Sven saw -ie, a micky take on a typical and 'popular' Swedish name! I also have one of these in the larger size and I think its a piece of s*ite. Its design verges on dangerous in terms of proximity of handle grip to the blade, and at least you have had the sense to wear a pair of very stout gloves. Its design is flimsy and seriously flawed. The other limitation is the angle of the frame which provides limitations on the size of log than can be cut, as with any frame saw. I also have a Laplander and think its a serious piece of quality kit, as well as far more portable and durable. It wouldn't be issued to NATO commandos in the field if it wasn't any good. There is also a new Canadian folding saw which I am going to get which would put this in the shade as would the Swedish EKA folding saw. The only decent thing about this saw in my opinion is the blade, and that's made in Sweden!
