Great video, but just wanted to let you know about 2 parts that you seemed to not know. 1. The velcro on the shoulder straps are for compatible pouches that 5.11 offers. 2. You didn't roll down the concealable molly pocket correctly. If you roll it down the opposite way, it can be tucked into the bottom and looks way better. I have had this pack for 2 years and love it! Again, great video.

Absolutely recommend this pack. I've owned 2 over the last 4 years. I EDC it for work, the gym, and school. The 1st one broke at the strap where the buckle connects.( I'm assuming it's a weak point.) But for apx. $100 bucks + I'd buy this over and over again.

Have one and I enjoy. Great organization but has about 3 issues 1)The material of the shoulder straps can sometimes feel like a cheese grater if you don't sit it on your shirt right 2)The frame sheet makes it impossible to sit upright without leaning it agains something 3)Like you said, very bottom heavy. Hard to get the center of gravity up. I'm a smaller guy so heavy low riding bags make me lean like a reverse Michael Jackson

I trimmed the frame sheet on mine and it sits up much better. A lot depends on how front heavy the bag is loaded as well.

I carried this pack for a week in Disneyworld last summer. The straps were comfortable and didn't wear out my shoulders. But, I couldn't agree more on the fact that its bottom heavy. After several days straight I did notice my back getting sore more than likely from the inadvertent leaning back from the center of gravity. I still use this as my EDC pack but it did not work well for me with long term use. Also, big yes on the compression straps. I've basically quit using mine for the exact two reasons you described. Still a decent EDC pack for the price.

Curious to see what you think about the 5.11 Rapid Quad Zip you used for comparison. It looks like a good option, except for the lack of water bottle holders on the outside. Thanks for your reviews.

Hey Aaron, the velcro tabs on the shoulder straps are there to accept some pouches that 511 made to attach. I have one and to be honest it is really to small to put anything.
@kenmarapese90856 жыл бұрын
You stated the velcro was positioned high in the sleeve, looks like if the compression straps were lower they might interfere with the conceal carry opening and drawing your pistol. Beautiful bag!

Great information. I like this bag, have used it a lot, but it's not perfect for everyone. Regarding the hook-and-loop attachment points on the shoulder straps, 5.11 used to offer a "5.11 Tactical COVRT Tech Pouch" that was designed to work with that feature. They sold them at my local 5.11 store and showed them to me when I bought this bag a long time ago. I don't think they were popular. I eventually bought 2 in the clearance section of their web site, when they were discontinued but never found them really useful. They never (as far as I know) had all the colors to match the colors available for the backpack, which didn't look covert at all if they didn't match your bag. Plus they were small... maybe okay for an Altoids tin or pack of cigs, too small for a smartphone. When attached, they made the straps bulky, were not very easy to access when wearing the pack, and didn't add much utility to a bag that already has so much built-in organization. My theory is they were intended for LEOs to have quick access to a badge or ID.

You can pull the velcro straps down and attach velcro mag pouches, IFAK, etc
Exactly the size and purpose im looking for. Id love to do a long term demo and review if you are interested. Cheers!

I absolutely love this bag. My only gripe was your first con addressed. I wish the concealed compartment was completely lined with hook and loop for the reason you gave. Other than that the bag is perfect. The compression straps are not a big worry for me as 1. Doesn’t take long to unsnap the buckles when needed. 2. It’s an edc bag, I’m not packing it full of bulky gear I need to compress all that much anyway. Laptop, note book , whatever book I’m reading and a hoodie is as bulky as I get on the daily. Plus all the smaller essentials that fit in the various pouches and admin pockets.

I used this pack as my EDC bag for around 6 months or so and did a review on it as well. It really is a great pack and this was a great review on it. Those velcro straps on the shoulder straps are for adding different types of pouches. 5.11 makes one called the Covrt Tech Pouch that's specifically designed to go with this bag. It's also can be used to quickly attach something to the shoulder strap on the go and in a hurry. For instance, you could take off a pair of gloves, pull that strap down, shove them against there, then place the strap back on and they're secure in a very quick fashion.

Thanks for the video. I have had my Covrt 18 for about 3 years and find it very useful as a travel pack. I agree with your comment about the compression strap. I found it useful to put my computer in the water bladder space as it was easy to get at rather than inside the bag. I think the bag should use thicker material on the base of the bag. I use the concealed pass thru section to keep my book to read when travelling. Take care Anthony

The Velcro Straps on the Shoulder Straps are meant for specific velcro en feed through Covrt pouches. Sad thing is that 5.11 doesn't offer them anymore (please correct me if I'm wrong because I am looking for them). This is one of the reasons I am on the fence with regards to buying this backpack. It sort of fills all the demands I have of my new EDC backpack (especially price wise because it is not as expensive as let's say a Maxpedition Entity 23), but I hate buying something with "useful gimmicks" which I then can't use :( If anyone has any ideas for a similar backpack (I live in Europe so Vertx isn't an option), then please let me know.

I really like this pack.....I prefer the external water bottle pockets on this pack over the internal water bottle pocket inside the quad zip pack. That’s my only gripe about the quad zip pack....I don’t like my water bottle next to my laptop. Nice color....I have the old “Mantis” green colored pack that 5.11 changed for the one you have.

I’ve used this bag every single day for about 4 years now and it’s still going strong. I have the dark blue and grey one. It has no rips or issues at all except the very bottom of the bag there are the 2 metal ring holes, well one metal ring is missing now. But I can fix that up. Great bag and live that it’s a Tati always bag but no one even knows by looking at it. Y’all know how a lot of these packs look overly ridiculous with TONS of molly etc. they sometimes draw too much attention in my opinion, hence the covert name but def buy this pack if your on the fence you will love it

Hi Aaron, just wanted to tell you what a great job you did on this review. I just bought this bag myself, but have not received it yet. I noticed that you did a review on the 5 11 covrt insert to help organize your molle bags and gear. Do you think that covrt insert would fit in this pack? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

I can relate your compression strap criticism, but did find one advantage: I can unzip the main compartment from the side to access the contents lower down without publicly clamshelling or unloading the whole bag.
@johnhill16466 жыл бұрын
The Velcro strips on the straps are for adding a pouch. 5.11 makes pouches especially for that bag. You just slip the webbing on the back of the pouch over the Velcro strip.

i have been using this bag for a few years now, its a great bag lots of organization and pockets. i thinks its time for a new bag 30l is a little to much for my needs,20-25 would be more then enough for me, i dont carry a lot a few folders clip board ipad mini a change of clothes( Socks Underwear and a t shirt ) a pouch with medical and tools,cords and chargers. yes and the bag does sag im not a fan of that.

Have the same pack and love it! The velcro straps are for additional attachments that 5.11 came out with, i believe they only came out with 1 or 2 though which is a shame because they could have done something cool with it. But you slide the strap through the accessory add on and then strap it back up so it doesnt look like it was added, it would therefor look like it was built into the backpack, i believe 5.11 has a video on it.

Great point about the compression straps limiting your ability to open the bag, that would drive me crazy on an EDC backpack! Definitely, something they should change. I really like their covert sling select carry bag.

I have had this pack for about 2 years now and I love it for edc. I use it back and forth from work and short trips. The only real complaint I have is when I used it on an all day hiking trip one time on vacation. There is a rubber strip on the back of the pack at the bottom (I am not sure why) and since it is kind of bottom heavy that part would move back and forth digging into my back. Was very uncomfortable and irritating with only a t-shirt on. But overall it is very well constructed and is great on organization.

some of us just love the 1000 nylon codura. it feels good to feel a substantial meaty pack when we hold it. please dont knock it so much if you can. i would hate if all bags go to 500. their not as tough as some may think. some of us love ultimate durability and we love great durability. so many people are weight nazis about needing a light flimsy pack. i love the rush series so much. its not old its current as being tough rugged molle all over and great organization. how much does a bag need to change to stay current. it doesnt really. all in all all bags are the same with just a few gimmicks to change it up. good straps, pockets, fabric and molle all ,makes a bag that needs no changing except for gimmicks..why buy weak when you can buy meaty and strong. keep molle keep our 1000 and no more ultra light weight nazis!! bring the weight. theyve done it for decades. quality is durabilty. simply stated but deep.
