I own this knife and I think it's great. To me, in comparison to the large, this is almost as tough (slightly thinner everywhere) but way more pocket friendly. Still has a very beefy pivot, washers, liners, overall construction, and tough steel. This knife is designed to handle lots of abuse but not be a huge pocket burden, and I think they nailed it. I love big knives, but when I want something a little smaller, but still capable, this thing just works. Sure, an opinel will slice an apple better, but there are lots of things I'd rather have this for. No 1 knife will be right for every job, just like no 1 screw driver can be used on every screw. I say it's a win. Good review Gideon
@fadetoblack28883 жыл бұрын
What!? 1st negative is that it's too beefy... But it's an Adamas, you know that it's going to be robust getting into it so that point is moot. 2nd is that it's too small... But it's a mini Adams, so yet again you know what you're getting into, and the point was to bring it down to an AVERAGE size for people who think the original is too big to EDC. It's not even close to as small as the normal mini's. It's barely shorter then a Griptilian. So another point that's moot. And point 3, price is subjective. For high end and custom collectors $212 is nothing and for Walmart knife guys, more then $20 is too much so does it really matter? No, not for those who would have bought the knife anyways. For a Adamas it's in the right price range all things considered. Of course we'd all like to see a cheaper price, but realistically it's not all that bad. My overall take on this review is that if you have large hands and are expecting a full size knife from a knife considered a mini, then you may be disappointed.
@ThomasConnolly3 жыл бұрын
Gideonstactical, I honestly think that you're definitely in the minority here because most people really really like the Benchmade Mini Adamas. There's one issue that most people had with the Benchmade Mini Adamas that I had and that you failed to mention, that issue is the burnt edge of the blade. My Cru-Wear blade on the Mini Adamas initially had poor edge retention with the factory edge, but after sharpening it twice and then fully reprofiling the edge and laying it's edge angle back a bit the edge retention really significantly improved.

Everyone talks about the price of Benchmades, but no one ever talks about Benchmades life-sharp service. You send your knife to them, and they will disassemble it, clean it, replace worn parts, reassemble, it, sharpen it, and return it, ALL AT NO COST TO YOU. This service is factored into the price, and is included with every model they sell. This service helps justify the Benchmade "butterfly tax" a little bit, at least in my opinion.

I agree with your assessment of this knife. For me it was somewhat of an impulse buy and the Cruwear was a major selling point. I have to say though, I love it. For me, the full size is just too darn big. This will probably appeal to knife guys, like myself, who try to fit every possible niche in their collection. Plus it looks cool. Came here to say something similar. I ordered mine on release and FINALLY got it last Thursday lol. I got small but thick hands as I work with them for a living and larger knives tend to fit me better. My mini Adamas fits perfectly only coming just short of my g10 shaman. And it's ridiculously light for the size. Don't mind carrying it at all and it's OD with the FDE blade just like the one in the video. Can't beat it in my opinion.

The mini adamas is my goto EDC and I love it, especially compared to the bug out with s90v blade and carbon scales. I have smaller hands than you so for me it works. I feel like Im carrying my knife. My biggest complaint I could say about it is that the mini does not close as effective as the fullsize adamas folder of this knife. I sometimes have to give it 2 to 3 chances to close up for me. Ive just learned to live with that. Its become a staple when I leave my house. Its also been paired often with a BM bushcrafter that stays in my hiking/camping/"bugout" bag. I just love how "overkill" it looks as well. I love knives just as much as you and the otherviewers here. Keep giving us content!

I can see your point though if you wear gloves or have larger hands. The knife works for me though. I do like the beefy construction of the folder. The Cru-wear full sized Adamas are slightly thinner on both the spine and the handle. But I don’t see a good reason upgrade my current D2 Adamas to the new folder.

I really enjoy your factual, logistical & fluent reviews of your content, especially regarding fixed blade knives. At 71, I've collected blades for many decades & have used & carried many different brands & models. My new favorite edc is the Benchmade ( entry level in the Hunt series ), Steep Country in CPM-S30V with a 3.54" × .12" stone washed blade & Santoprene handle. I also have carried it's bigger, more expensive Saddle Mountain Skinner brother in 4.2" × .12" CPM-S90V steel blade with Richlite handle, but I decided to dedicate this blade to hunting. Both of these knives are full flat grind with Benchmades' new "Selectedge" 14° grind per side. The handle thickness is rather thin & I wonder what you would think of these blades for general bushcrafting use along with a larger blade. If you haven't, would you try these blades out & review them in your unique style?

The mini Bushcrafter 165 is a fantastic small blade and scaled down perfectly from the 162/163. I was hoping that to be the same with the mini Adamas since I love the full size. I was hoping this would be a true little brother to the full size Adamas, like the 162/3 down to 165 but instead, to me, this was like a mini clone of the larger one. Reminds me of my ZT452, where its easy to carry but seldom a joy to use since its such a shallow thick blade. If only they had made the saber a tad higher and blade .5mm thinner... idk

Thanks for the video! I have to say that I disagree with a lot of these points though, and the “one reason” you mentioned doesn’t apply to me at all. As others have mentioned, this is a great midway between bruiser/beater and small edc knife. I feel like I’m always having to choose between full size knives and tiny delicate light-sabers that instill no confidence, and that have no finger choil. I have medium hands and this knife fits my hand absolutely perfectly. I get that it’s a quarter inch too small for you and that sucks, but others may not have that issue. I personally wanted something similar to a Spyderco Shaman but a bit smaller, and this fit the bill perfectly with even more durable steel. It’s almost exactly as thick as a Shaman, which is just thick enough for me to notice it’s there in my pocket while working. I tried the Griptilian and it was pretty close as far as the target use case I think, but I have more confidence in the grip on this while doing harder work. As far as full size and price: I’ll probably also end up getting the full size, but honestly I’d pay more for a smaller lighter knife in a lot of cases, as would a lot of other people. Sure you can pay a bit more for the full size, but if that’s not what you’re after, why would you? Always interesting hearing other perspectives though and I think I understand why it’s just not for you.

I don’t get the dislike for the handle size. I have larger hands than most people I know. I need to wear extra large gloves or they are very difficult to get on and off and leave marks. The handle on the mini Adamas fits my hand just fine. What you said about it not slicing as well as a thinner blade is true, but I wanted a good, tough, can-do-just-about- anything knife and this is it. It’s first knife I’ve owned that has had a “super steel” blade, as S30V isn’t considered a super steel. The blade steel was a big selling point for me. I think the size is about perfect, maybe could be a hair thinner, but otherwise I love it. Anyway, good video.

I carry the full size during hunting season or when I'm in the woods. I enjoy carrying the mini for EDC. It's just a smaller version of my favorite knife.

I know I said that I would never buy a benchmade again. But I've been thinking about the big daddy adamas or the seal XR from sog.. have you done a review on the big adamas? I've seen your review on the seal xr. Which would you suggest?

the mini isn't too small, the regular one is just unnecessarily big and clunky. btw: i never use gloves with my knife, get some cornea and you stop caring ;-) also: the cruwear is such a huge step up over the d2, it justifies the uprade on it's own.

I like that you make a video where you say that this knife is a no while a lot of people hyping this knife. My reasons not to buy it is that the Adamas was the most badass Benchmade and has to be big enough. With the small one I dont see a real difference compared to the Griptilian for example.

I absolutely luv mine. I got it brand new on eBay for $169.95. I have the Model you're showing. And, I think it "ROCKS!!!" Note: I also have the original D-2 version and I also have the new large size CruWear Model, too. Both of those are the Black Versions. The Mini is really a full sized folder; I absolutely luv it. Mine is in my pocket right now. Why do Reviewer's always compare heavy-duty folders to super lightweight folders, I don't know... They need to be compared to other heavy-duty folders, in my opinion. I mean, you wouldn't compare a heavy-duty Truck to an Economy Car... :-)

I EDC the monster full size. I use it for work. Strips wires, cuts everything I come across, never misses a beat. I beat the crap out of it and it just takes it and holds the edge. If you don't want a big knife you probably shouldn't carry an Adamas lol. I agree with you. They should have left it alone. It's like the knife that shouldn't have been given Benchmade's other options.

I feel like the Adamas is an pocket knife that someone can buy and use for everything and never buy another pocket knife, I’ve been looking for a knife that can do everything, EDC, small heavy duty tasks and what not, I’ve been carrying a Leek for a little bit now and while I enjoy the knife, I feel like if I do anything heavy duty with it, I’ll snap the lock, any recommendations? Because the Mini Adamas is too expensive for what you get

@@garrettferrell6821 I’ve looked at Cold Steel Knives, a lot of great options, I’m looking for a knife with a deep carry, tip up carry, that can take a beating but still looks beautiful, Cold Steel’s Code 4 seems about right for me, just wish it had a deep carry clip

The color combo and steel was one of the biggest selling points to me lol. I really like mine. I have only carried it a couple times but I wouldn't be against carrying it more I just have so damn many knives and have more coming constantly so I don't carry any specific knife to much. I will say though since I got the ABW model 1 v6 and the Spyderco Slysz Swayback those 2 have been carried quite a bit love those 2 just wish the cutout access to the Spydiehole was a bit enlarged on the swayback guess its something I could mod though and seen it done. Maybe there will be some aftermarket show side scales out there too unless there already is and I just haven't seen them

Thanks, this is the most comprehensive review of this knife. I was looking at buying one and now I'm not so sure. I have the full size and I like it, but I'm looking for a fixed or folder for EDC with premium steel to add to the rotation. I've been looking at the other benchmade offerings like the saddle mountain skinner, the microtech alpha series, etc. and I can't make up my mind. I wish someone would just make up my mind for me LOL. The Anonimus looks cool too, but the full sized choil guard looks weird despite serving a sensible purpose.

Just ordered one because I was in the market for a beefier EDC-ish sized knife. So, reasons to buy and not buy could be swapped up depending on what you're looking for. So, over $300 for the carbon option 😂. Couldn't help myself.

But holding the full and mini at cabelas, despite the mini being a shot shoe exclusive I couldn't go with it cause I just wasn't feeling it. Regular was calling for me. But also the aluminum m390 bugout was also calling to me. The action was so smooth, but it's so much smaller in hand then I realized.

You hit that 1 reason to get this knife right on point. The weight, thickness, price and build made no sense for someone to get the mini over the full size unless you like rocking expensive pocket anchors to open mail and cut apples for edc.

Я купил мини адамос оригинал, мне очень понравился нож. Собираюсь купить китайскую реплику, что бы сравнить, и на запчасти винтики, пружинки, пригодятся. Большая версия нормально, но на каждый день на кармане тяжеловата.

You can get the full size Adamas for just $20 more or get the 550-1 Griptilian with CPM-20CV for like 190. Or frankly, even better, if you want a badass knife, get the Cold Steel AD-10 or AD-15 for even cheaper. This is a silly knife. Edit: just reached the end of the video... The laws are more silly than the knife.

I personally love the Mini Adamas though he makes some good points..I like the handle thickness.the blade stock is a bit too thick but I reprofiled the blade making it a far more capable slicer.it fits my hand perfectly but my hands aren’t as big as his(I wear large sized Mechanix gloves) and I could definitely see how it could be a problem for guys with bigger hands..with that being said,I think it’s a great knife

Personally, I've been debating between the Mini Adamas and the M4 "Super" Freek. The Mini Adamas is slightly heavier, has a shorter blade, might not have as nice a set of scales (personal opinion), and the CPM Cruwear will likely not hold its edge longer than CPM M4. On the other hand, the Mini Adamas may be of tougher construction (which would be saying something, as the "Super" Freek is a tank in its own right), the Mini Adamas' blade is almost certainly tougher (again, the M4 has a reputation for being REALLY tough, but in this case the Mini Adamas' blade's thicker stock may push it in its favor), and the CPM Cruwear would be easier to sharpen. Then again, the debate for me may not be which one to get, but which one to get *first.*
@garrettferrell68213 жыл бұрын
I recently bought both the Mini Adamas,the M4 Super Freek and the carbon fiber+S90V Bugout and I personally love all 3..if I absolutely had to choose between the Mini Adamas and the M4 Super Freek,I would probably choose the Super Freek but mainly because of the thinner blade stock.it makes for a better slicer,therefore better for EDC IMO..if you want to see the type of abuse the M4 Super Freek can handle,I would recommend watching Dutch Bushcraft Knives video.they beat the hell out of that knife,batoning it through logs and everything..they were blown away by the level of abuse the Super Freek stood up to..I’m sure the Mini Adamas would stand up to even more abuse but I know I will never be nearly as hard on any of my folders as they were in their torture tests

I own the big adamas and I believe the only reason I have it is because the mini didn’t exist at that point, I think I would’ve loved the mini, but I’m giving up on benchmade. The axis lock and it’s major weakness of the omega springs, just a bear to change and such a bummer when your lock wears out in 6 months to a year. I love the Spyderco ball lock on the manix, that spring is quite a bit more robust and will last..

Some people whine about Benchmade’s prices, but forget they are made in the USA. You get what you pay for in terms of quality, materials, engineering, etc. STOP whining or they will start manufacturing in China. Then you whiners will complain about quality, materials, and engineering.
