I've had the 420 ss version since I was a teenager. Now at 72, I realize how laughable it was to carry for deer hunting. The farmer next door carried a cheap folding Boy Scout type knife in his pocket & dressed out many more deer than I ever bagged, but it just made me feel good having it on my belt.

If you're 72-73 yrs old now you would of had a 440c version of the 120. Buck went with the 420HC in '92 I think. Pulling out a Buck 120 is bad ass though, it was used on Friday the 13th Part 4, 7, and 8 VHS covers as well. It definitely does feel good carrying it!

I used to love camping until these stupid dogmen started multiplying and being in much of the thicker parts of the woods. That said, if I ever did go, I would trust my life with this knife, than a bigger knife that barely holds a pointy tip.

My love for knives started early in life. I can remember looking at the Buck knives in the Sears catalog when I was just a young boy back in the 80s. As far as looks go it just doesn't get much better than the 119. Love the channel and content. Thanks for sharing and take care my friend.

Watching your videos has definitely helped me pick my current fixed blades for when I'm hiking/camping and staying long periods of times in the woods but on average I like a blade about 4.5" to 7" and my line up is the kershaw camp 10 , lionsteel t5 and the ruike f118 ! For hunting I like my bark river bushcrafter ultra light. Thank you so much for guiding me on my carry and keep them videos coming.....

What a gorgeous knife. If it was a beauty contest, the 120 takes the cake! I love my 110 folder as a hunting companion and never needed anything larger for game. In fact, I use a Buck Paklite skinner most often for field dressing. The 120 seems like a terrific all-rounder. Thanks for putting out great content. I'd like to hear more about full-time RV life too.

A 4-4.5" blade is my most used blades. Easy to carry and you don't have to watch the over reach of a longer blade and avoid getting cut. I have a 119 and a 124 but use the 119 a lot more. Love seeing Buck offering other steels.

Thanks for a probing review. I've come to trust your evaluations on equipment and that often drives my purchase decisions. Buck is making some interesting steel/handle combinations and I am acquiring more of them. My favorite is the 119 with the 6 inch blade being optimum. Bought a set of the D2 steel Buck knifes and looking forward to some outdoor work with them.

As usual your vids are excellent! You cover it all… I recently bought the 120…. To collect. I’ve got more fixed knives then one could possibly need-ever… but the looks, cocobolo handles aluminum finish just looked like something I needed to add. It is the pro version. No matter how many variables there are out there- I always seem to circle back to the Buck brand. Bought my first 110 in military 1972. Thanks again. Keep the videos coming… 👍

My 1st hunting knife was the Buck 118, bought in the 80s and I still have it, sharp as ever. Recently added the 192 because it is beautiful. Along with the smaller 538, my Buck collection would love to have the 120 at the top of the food chain to round it out. Regardless, congratulations to the winner, my fingers are crossed, and thanks for the great vids.

Love the 119. Bought the D2 120 "for the collection" and ended up liking it better, enough that I bought the 120 S35V Pro version too. AWESOME knife. Between the D2 and S35V 120 (and 119) I don't think you can go wrong. The D2 is a heck of a value. Performance wise I can't really tell the difference except for stain resistance.

Great review and input Aaron. ... Just by serendipity, I ordered a Kabar D2 Extreme plain edge yesterday. It'll be my stay in the truck utility/camp knife. ... I took a Buck General (120) with me to fight in the Iron Triangle (III Corps) Vietnam in 1968. Truthfully, I rarely had any need for it, the way we operated in Army Infantry, or for the horrible food we were given. I carried it for about 5 months and only recall using it once, to free myself from clinging vines in triple canopy jungle. Then I snapped the blade off at the hilt. Of course I was diappointed, but in retrospect, I didn't miss it a bit during the 7 months I served in the jungle without it. It had been just a macho, status symbol, extra piece of useless gear to hump. ... I fpught wildfire as a career in Alaska for a couple decades. We sheltered in extremely remote, primitive camps with crews of 16, or helitack loads of 6. Each of us did all our own food prep from large fresh food boxes helicoptered in every 3 days. Knives were used for slicing 5 lb cheddars, large canned hams, potatoes, onions, carrots and 1 steak every 3 days. The rest of the vegetables were canned. Lots of PBJ sandwiches, and hot dogs. Also lots of fiber tape to cut. I liked about a 5" fixed blade, 4" folder and an SAK for that work. A Buck 119 in S35VN would have been perfect. ... I hunted big game in Alaska too. For Moose, Bison, Caribou, and Dall Sheep, I liked a 5" or slightly longer drop point, hollow ground fixed blade. A Bob Dozier Elk Hunter in D2 was perfect for me. Truthfully, a Buck 119 in S35VN would have worked well also. ... For most of my fishing, including large salmon, I prefer a dedicated flexible filet knife of 6"- 7" and a 4" filet knife for trout, and Grayling. ... The D2 Buck 120 looks to be great for food prep, but I prefer a saber grind for an all around camp knife with making stakes and fire prep on the agenda. ... Thanks again for great video Aaron.

For me the Buck 119 would be my carry. I have been packing an axe for chopping and splitting and I like to take along a a larger thicker knife for all unexpected needs. But to compliment the big knife, I always scout carry a 4" flat grind as my go-to knife for absolutely any job that comes along. That said, the 119 with the high hollow grind would be in line to fill that need. I am a fan of Buck knives and it is really good to see this review. Buck 103 Skinner is one of my favorites. I have a 120 with the cocobolo brass handle. Like most people say it's too long, I just got it for collecting. I recently bought a 119 Brahma with the leather handle and I switched the sheath with my regular 119 brown sheath and it looks real nice. Even the regular 119 with the cocobolo brass handle looks much better in the black molle sheath for the Brahma. The gold and reddish handles standout against the Black Sheath much nicer. Waiting for the postman any minute bringing a Esee 5 with contoured handles. It's been years I've been thinking about this knife for a few years and I finally took the plunge. It could rain, snow, hail and yellow crocodiles could be falling from the sky and I wouldn't care.

This review caught my attention as I have yet to get a Buck fixed blade and this one peaked my interest. Usually I wouldn’t go for this style if knife at this size, but some of your testing and examples of use convinced me to plan on getting one. Not sure which one yet as I like other versions of some of the pro series too. My favorite large all-around blade is my Skrama 240. I’m trying to expand to more premium US blades like Tops, Esee, and Buck and ones that are slightly smaller like this one. My most recent purchase is the Tops Brushwolf which is in the early use phase.

Been using Buck knives since I bought my first one in 1971, the 110 folding hunter. On my 2nd one & a 110 is still on my belt 50 years later. I Carry a Baby Buck 55 pocket knife, mini me 110. Those 2 knives are on me everyday of my life. I have several other Bucks but for camping etc. I have always used a special edition 119 sheath knife, with Cocobolo handle and a brown sheath vs black. Their sheaths on the 119 & 120 are the best leather sheath's you can find ! My original 110 has a ton of sentimental value to me, the sheath has been repaired & worn out again & the blade is half the size of a new one. I even dropped it in a blazing fire once & it just blackened one side on a little spot,... more character. I think I'll still send it back one of these days for repair. The 119 rules in the field !!

Great review Aaron. Love that wood handle...would love to own one. I've got both the 119 and the 120 in 420HC. If I could only pick one I would go with the 120, but I would have to get a kydex sheath for it like I did for mine. That wide backwards leather keeper I find to be an obstruction and very difficult to snap closed one-handed. 7" blade is my favorite fixed blade size. I like to carry them up higher with a tek-lok type system for better concealment.

Q/W, my favorite fixed blade length is 5-6 inches for most things but longer blades do come in handy. Nice review!

Hopefully still time to apply haha always like your videos I have used both the 119 imo is a general purpose hunting knife but the 120 comes into its own for butchering and deboning as you said I never new it was available in d2 that’s a great upgrade either way very stylish classics ! All the best to you and yours

Love the 119 myself. My favorite carry blades though are around the 3-4 inch mark. Current is an Esee 3 in an Armatus kydex holster.

Interesting …. I have been using knives in the Canadian wilderness for both camping/hiking and hunting everything up to moose. Buck knives have been my serious go to knives for both those endeavours. The Buck 120 Pro (S35VN steel) is my camp knife for the northern tours and it’s fantastic for field dressing and skinning big animals like elk and moose. My general hunting knife is the Vanguard 192 (with the same wood as your 120 and in 420HC) and my ranch knife is a Buck 110 (Guide version in S30V, rosewood and cerakote blade). It’s an awesome working knife which includes having to occasionally butcher a steer or heifer in the field. I have a variety of other working knives but I always seem to go to the Bucks when I need high performance. Thanks for the video!

Would you trust the 120 pro for batoning?

Buck has always made some really nice knives and I have to say that my all time SHTF folder is the Buck 110 but my fixed blade choice would be the old tried and true military variant of Kabar. My most used and favorite fixed blade length falls between 4 to 5½ inches beyond that for me makes them impractical for me.

Thanks for testing these classic designs. These are the knives that served generations before us, their equipment worked also. Which would I choose? Probably a 119.

Love the 120 and the 119. My favorite blade length would have to be "5 to "6 for a fixed !

Q/W when camping I prefer bigger knives in the 6 to 9 inch range because always carry a pocket knife with me for food or fine cuts. I don't always carry an ax or hatchet so a bigger knife that I can chop and baton with is what I like. Great reviews of that sexy knife!

I like the variety that Aaron shows, but as they say “right tool for the job” and unless hunting/field dressing is involved all of these Bucks become shelved display items. In the 7” range the TKC Architect 6.5 in 3v is very hard to beat.
