Unlike other amimals, calves get all their immunity from colostrum so it is especially important to get colostrum in them before bacteria can get a start. If your calves like your grain mix, use that with calf starter concentrate to provide protein and minerals and save a few dollars compared to starter mix.

Great video. Great explanation how to take care of that calf in the first few hours and few weeks. I have registered angus and at birth if they don’t have a teat in their mouth within the first hour, I’m pushing that calf up under mom and getting him/her started. I can do that as my cows are gentle and trust me
