Someone else just asked me this. The answer is that you can install whatever you want in that car, but it will need a massive amount of custom wiring and dashboard modifications, and an aftermarket amplifier. There's a video on my channel showing all the work required to install aftermarket in a 9-3 from between 2003-2006

Just bought a 2000 Nissan Stagea which has traditional din sizing and no steering wheel controls - so for me a physical knob was a prerequisite. Add wireless android auto and a simple UI that has everything you need with no gimmicks and this might just be the best unit I've seen so far! It's a digital output away from perfection - hopefully the built in DAC and DSP controls wont have me wishing I could add a mini-DSP in before the amp.

THe idoing integration looks like the best I have ever seen. If only they had a model with the optical/coax digital connection. Thats a huge benefit in these as it removes all ground loops if you are a power user with a DSP+amps.

Fantastic review, I appreciate it. I've currently got a 2016 Subaru forester and 2018 Toyota rav4 hybrid, both with the same stock head unit. My biggest complaint is the Bluetooth latency. It's insane, like a literal 3-4 second delay. Do you know what codec this iDoing headunit uses for Bluetooth? This looks like the ideal unit for me, as I'd really like a physical volume knob. With the recommended wiring kit, do the car's own alert tones come through the stereo speakers? Sounds like a lot of aftermarket installs keep these from working. I'd like to make things as "factory" as possible in my 2007 9-3 Combi.

How can you rate vehicle integration with a 9 when the fact is, these Chinese 2din units don't fit properly inside a 2din case. I wouldn't considering buying these, because vehicle integration isn't that good actually.
@SaabUnleashed2 жыл бұрын
Integration is much more than that. It's canbus integration including steering controls, boot up car logo, panel illumination colour and other items that make the unit part of the car you're installing it in. At the end of the day, having a bit of a fiddle to make a good head unit fit is not a big deal, especially considering you'll probably never take it out again.
@wesleyvelroij48372 жыл бұрын
@@SaabUnleashed yeah but all Chinese car head units have that: your iDoing, isn't more than a label put on by a Chinese AlliExpress seller. They all run on the same hardware, and software made by a few ( perhaps just even one ) Shenzhen based companies. Just this one has a 7 inch screen, most of the units with this chipset I have seen feature a 9 inch screen. And come with a complete frame, for the specific vehicle. I also heard these chipsets from unisoc, are quite buggy. That's why I didn't buy any of these units, because on XDA I kept reading people complaining about bugs.
@SaabUnleashed2 жыл бұрын
@@wesleyvelroij4837 there's a fair amount of misinformation in your post. It's true that some Aliexpress sellers just put their name on generic hardware, but there are plenty of brands which have their own engineering teams creating their own main boards and build designs. Software is shared between certain brands but not all, some brands have their own. That's the point of my channel, to explore what individual countries are doing. Not all of them have the features that I mentioned.
@wesleyvelroij48372 жыл бұрын
@@SaabUnleashed is it? Yes sure they might use different screens, at volume knobs etc. But in the end they all get mainboards from a Chinese manufacture, which already includes this chipset. They even provide the firmware, else these settings menu's wouldn't look the same on all brands. It's not like you talking about a company the size of Xiaomi: I would directly buy a head-unit, if Xiaomi made them. But to me the integration of this iDoing, is big no. It's basically has the same issue, as £ 30 headunits, running on Windows CE and it's because the Chinese 2din seemly isn't that same as the 2din size we use. Which means these Chinese 2din headunits are a pain in the ass, to install in your car. While a JVC of £ 300 would fit perfectly, without any need of adjusting.
@SaabUnleashed2 жыл бұрын
@@wesleyvelroij4837 I don't disagree with you regarding the double din size, it can be a ballache, although that issue only affects some cars (including Saab). And whilst the baseline computer (CPU/RAM combis) are utalised by most brands, the other components, such as tuners, amplifiers, DSPs, and even quality electrical components such as capacitors differ wildly across brands. Software too. These differences are what dictate whether a product is quality or not. The size is merely an annoyance.
