Gift Box from Scrap Wood

I accumulate a lot of scrap wood throughout the year. As the holiday season begins I pull it all out and start to make gifts from these bits of prized wood. Small pieces of figure or interesting knots. Tiny pieces of precious exotics, and lumps of quartered grain. They all come together to make beautiful hand made gifts in one last ditch effort to save themselves from the fire pit.
This box is just simple miters with veneer splines and a slab top that sits in a rabbet. I considered turning a small knob but decided against it for this simpler approach that highlights the knot in the Walnut top.

Nope Eleanor and her boyfriend Silas wrote the lyrics. Trust me Eleanor doesn't need any help when it comes to understanding the woodworking world having grown up in it. Also remember that she did much of the illustrations in her dad's books.

I am really interested in your mitered shooting board! I’ve been puzzling out how to make one myself, watch8ng videos, etc, but yours is really unique and looks to be exactly what I’ve been trying to envision! Do you have plans available?

Right now it is only available in The Hand Tool School either as an apprentice subscriber or by purchasing Semester 2. But it is based on a design by Charles Hayward.

I just finished mine and it is fantastic! The design is superior IMHO and you can knock out the sides for a mitered box is seconds!

Just curious, solid wood bottom glued and encased in a mitered four sided box. Are you counting on it being so small as to not cause the bottom to swell and open the miters? It's Dec so it's width will be the smallest it will be all year.

Yep, also you will notice I quartered it and glued it into a panel to minimize how much it would move. At this size and with the flexibility that hide glue offers, I don't anticipate any movement issues.
