Even if intel decides to retain their "pricing douchebaggery," the AMD processors will be cheaper nonetheless. And if there is any merit to their debut of the Summit Ridge processor against the i7 6900k, then they will be an incredible bargain that will blow intel out of the water hopefully.

Reality of the situation...However the fact is AMD do NOT need to beat Intel on the high end (that's just the fantasy of fanboys). If they can give equivalent or slightly > i3/i5 performance at a lower price point with other value add features in the chipset (eg higher end audio, faster storage, etc) they'll carve out a nice niche. In fact, the AMD chipsets have been where they've been sorely behind. Good to see type c and m.2/u.2.

Smart Intel. It doesn't really bother me. It's sort of nice that Intel is allowing it, rather than withholding them. I suppose Intel would be sued for that, but still. That's the price AMD pays for spending so many years in the doghouse. The Lost Decade. Intel, for what it's worth, is licensing certain technologies such as x64 from AMD. It's a two-way street, even if most of the traffic is going one way.

While Kaby Lake looks to be not the best upgrade path from Skylake (lets be honest here: it isn't an upgrade at al from Skylake really they are performing pretty much neck and neck); Ryzen is shaping up to be the better upgrade option for those needing to upgrade from Skylake right away but don't have the money for the X99 platform CPUs from Intel. Performance on the SR7 CPUs is looking really promising and if the price is right could be a real game-changer in the CPU market and also a massive shakeup as well which is what is so very much needed.

With Ryzen I'm mostly interested in a SFF productivity build as I just built an i7 Z170 gaming rig. We know that high clocks with as few as four cores are great for most gaming set-ups, but I would love to have an eight core rig that doesn't cost as much as Intel's X99 platform for productivity.

You forgot to mention a crucial thing about B350: it still allows overclocking. Pair that with the fact that all Zen CPUs are unlockable and you have the perfect board for people who game with just one GPU but also like a little more mmmph out of their CPU. Boards with the B350 chipset will sell incredibly well considering it's target price point and the features you're getting from it.

Well, as the NIC is not part of the chipset itself, it's up to the board manufacturer to choose which one to use. As far as I know, the difference between a regular NIC and a killer NIC is that the latter has some special software dependencies and a dedicated ARM processor with its own RAM to prioritize packets. I don't know how adding another couple of layers to the network stack won't increase latency but I'm not an expert. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've got an X99 SOC FORCE by them and out of the 15+ rigs i've built, this is the only gigabyte board. It has the most fussy bios i've ever used. I cant even OC in it anymore, the boot device goes missing every time I do and this board is literally MADE for overclocking. Like, that's pretty much it's sole purpose and it cant even do that. Hell, I cant even restore shit to default and rely on the "OC" button built on the mobo to do the OC because the boot device still goes missing. Reset everything back to default and bam, it boots fine, but no OC. A buddy of mine has the SOC champion and has the exact same problem. Not to mention other issues i've had with this board including crashes while in the bios and settings not saving. It's a well built, aesthetically pleasing board, but all the pluses are wiped away when it's hardly functional. I should have just stuck with MSI or Asus, both of which I've never had this many problems with before. I have phoned gigabyte several times about it and they insist there's nothing wrong with the board and that it must be something I'm doing when I know what I'm doing. I've done this same shit on different boards and never had these issues, so not only do they refuse to RMA it, they claim it's working as intended. I CANT EVEN GET IT TO OC WITH THE SIMPLE OC BUTTON BUILT ON TO THE MOTHERBOARD WITHOUT THE BOOT DEVICE GOING MISSING! HOW IS THAT "WORKING AS INTENDED"!?

Yeah my last gigabyte motherboard fried, and took my GPU with it. There was a clear fried spot on a chip on the motherboard, it looked like someone had broken a piece off. It was a MA770T board. They actually had a lot of failures with that board but covered it up and never acknowledged it so that they didn't have to do a recall. I think it was either a manufacturing defect or it was due to the 2oz copper inner layers. It either bridged some connections from within the board, or the heat transferred to the copper from the board which transferred heat to components that weren't designed to take that kind of heat. I mean believe it or not, there are components on motherboards that aren't designed to operate in the same temps that the CPU puts out, and it typically isn't an issue because they're nowhere near the CPU for it to be an issue. But if you have say, a copper layer sandwiched inside soaking up heat, it could transfer heat to areas you don't want it. I have an Asrock Z97 board now, and when I was using stock heatsink, even at 70c I was getting issues. Upgraded to a beefy heatsink and all the heat related issues went away, no more sudden reboots. Anyone with a 4790k knows that 70c is nothing and shouldn't be an issue, but it was the temps from the CPU causing issues in other components. The beefy heatsink more readily gets rid of that heat and keeps me at 55c max. Haven't had an issue since.

Again I just wish they had changed the mounting system for there coolers... That's my only complain for Zen, they should have changed it to something like the mounting system for Intel's 2011 platform now that's a nice mounting system. No back plates needed for custom cooling.

I like that AMD didn't bother with a GPU on the die. They are focusing on what's important. Funny that the chipset is called 370. Coincidence? I love it. It's so exciting. Those motherboards are making me feel something down there.

Thats why this generarion APUs are so insteresting. Someone who wants high end gaming would not be instered in a igpu so why making them pay for it? meanwhile AMD is gonna bless the low end gaming with an integrated r7 360 with the new APUs, probably the most powerful igpu i have hear of, a discrete/low end gpu killer.
@Starchface
@Starchface 7 жыл бұрын
What you give to the GPU you take away from the CPU. Obviously there are limits to what can be done because of heat dissipation, power and bandwidth requirements, but if AMD can provide performance at least as good as a decent i3 with that, they will have something.

Trying to decide between AMD Ryzen and Intel Kaby Lake - upgrading from an i5 4690k. Wanna overclock and mainly use my PC for gaming and word processing and various multimedia tasks. Will have to wait for prices and benchmarks but 2017 and 2018 will be exciting years for PC enthusiasts.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately all we can do now is wait and see. I want to wait anyway until I am more financially stable since I will easily have to spend around 500-1000 pounds to get a new CPU/mobo/DDR4 ram/gtx 10-series upgrades.

Honestly I don't see the point of the onboard display adapter on a board for chips with no integrated video. Who the heck gets a > $200 motherboard for use with an APU? APUs by nature are for people who do budget builds (nothing wrong with that), so they'll likely be using a cheaper motherboard as well. I would rather they just save a few bucks by not even including the display port on these higher-end motherboards.

I see your point but remember that they said that these boards would be compatable for the next 4 years, by that time they may have a beast NAVI based apu that someone with a then "old" mobo could use

I've heard that about Intel cpus, but becuase AMDs sockets are made out of plastic it is supposed to "melt" sooner than Intels. Hence my question what the new thermal thingy was.
