PCIE 5.0 x 8 is the exact same bandwidth as PCIE 4.0 x16. There are no graphics cards that are PCIE 5.0. Not only that, but there is still no graphics card available that can saturate PCIE 3.0 x16 let alone PCIE 4.0 x16. In fact in gaming and creator workloads, an RTX 3090 can only barely fully saturate PCIE 2.0 x16 bandwidth. Only very specialized workflows in things like AI and modeling can you saturate PCIE 4.0 x16 graphics cards.
@StevesHardware2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but a link must be negotiated. So if you stick a x16 card in a x8 slot, it will only run at x8 at the highest speed the GPU supports even if higher speeds are supported.
@gumz4183 Жыл бұрын
@@StevesHardwarehey Steve, pardon me but what does this mean exactly? Are you saying GPUs have a speed cap on 8 lanes? And so even if Pcie 5 is twice as fast, the GPU performance is still going to be capped? I have purchased this board and a 4080 and I can't return them in my country(no return policy). I intend to use the Pcie 5 m2 slot(with a Pcie5 SSD) and was initially okay with running my GPU through 8 lanes but is this going to affect performance in any considerable way?

Thanks for this video! Building on this board tonight. I have a PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe and RTX 4090 GPU. Also 13900K CPU. Couple questions. With the GPU in the 'CPU connected PCIe 5' slot I will install my M.2 in the slot you recommend (you called it slot 4). But, can I ever move up to a PCIe 5 M.2 (slot 5/Gen 5) without stealing from my GPU on this motherboard? Also, I'm using Corsair HX1500i PSU, should I use both the 8 and the 4 power connectors? Wondering if I should have opted for the gaming motherboard...
@StevesHardware2 жыл бұрын
You can put it in any slot, in fact I'd put it in that first slot or in the one furthest from the GPU as that will generate a lot of heat. The 4090 can also negotiate a faster bus speed, so it shouldn't take as big of a hit as the older gpus like a 2080 ti.

It's not an AORUS issue, it's an LGA 1700 / Z790 issue. Z790 boards all have 16 lanes of PCIe 5.0, so whichever one you get you'll be losing x8 if you populate the top M.2 slot.

Vision Link USB-C port outputs DisplayPort 1.4 whereas the HDMI port is only HDMI 2.0. So if you are using an integrated GPU want to get 4kx60hz with HDR, you can use that (easy to convert to HDMI 2.1 if needed). It will output from the integrated GPU or it can use a vid card bridged as in the video. This guy has amazing details and demos, but you'll probably need english CC switched on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpyZeamGm6afeKssi=7RHEXNHj3-oQF154 Some people call this board a clone of the Aorous Elite X board but it's got better USB headers and the Visionlink. ( the "Gaming X" board does seem like a clone of the Elite X). Your vid is Amazingly detailed and helpful. Thanks!
