So the general term is “dynamax” where the pokemon get bigger (which only lasted for 3 turns). Any pokemon can “dynamax”. “Gigantimax” is when the pokemon not only gets bigger, but changes form as well. You already went over the “gigantimax” list in the video. All moves change in this form as well (example, any fire move becomes “max flare”). Certain g-max pokemon get special “max moves”, such as the gen 1 and gen 8 starters, etc.

So, interesting thing. Raids started in Pokemon Go and shortly afterwards came out in sword and shield. I haven't seen it confirmed but it's likely pokemon Go raids inspired this mechanic in the main series game. With that, they're finally adding it. I hope they add dens instead of just having raids in gyms.

I remember reading somewhere that the Pokémon don't actually grow larger but that they gain some sort of larger version of themself around them like a holographic image. Apparently, the regular sized Pokémon is inside its Gigantamax version. I find that interesting.

Interesting? More like dumb. If that were true then your attacks on them (like a thunderbolt) would go through them and out the other end even though it would like like you’d hit them directly, or it might hit the actual Pokémon inside if you were lucky. But in gigantamax battles your attacks always hit them as soon as they make contact. Meaning they are not holograms. Holograms are 3D objects made of pure light and have no substance. That theory is nonsense and is trying to explain the incredibly nonsensical phenomenon that is gigantamaxing. It’s stupid and game freak knows it, they were clearly running out of ideas, that’s why they basically stole this from PoGo and rebranded it as gigantamax. I know Pokémon is filled with other nonsense that makes you question how that world can even sustain itself, but imo, Gigantamax was just a whole new level of ridiculous that no one could explain logically with a straight face.

@@JakeLikesJoking I believe it was confirmed in a video that Dynamax and Gigantamax are hard-light projections. Since this phenomenon is exclusive to Galar, it must be something made by Eternatus. Perhaps it is a special type of physical light. Regardless, it's nothing new. Just look at Substitute. I doubt every Pokemon that knows Substitute walks around carrying stuffed animals. Whatever the case is, you don't have to be so offensive to me. I didn't make it up. This is a world where animal creatures fit inside little spheres and have devastating powers. Interactive light is nothing new. Just think of it as being like energy attacks from other series. The Kamehameha is all light/energy, no?

IIRC (and I never played it so Im not sure) the raid dens for gigantomax were in a ‘wild area’ so maybe it’s possible we could see an implementation of these dens in rural areas to replace Pokemon spawns, that beating them gives items (to help with a lack of Pokestops) and that they’re implemented in a way that uses street data to avoid placing them in areas too close to a residential property / private property (Im sure the open street data site has these parameters).

If they're introducing the Gigantamax feature to Pokemon GO, that could possibly mean that they're finally gonna bring Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble to Pokemon GO. I was very surprised that they skipped the Galar starters and went straight to Paldea. A lot of people were. So let's hope that the Galar starters will finally appear along with the Gigantamax feature.

I also didn't like gigantimax and it made me not want to play or buy Sword and Shield, but like you, it did grow on me. For me, I became more ok with them seeing how cool and interesting the competitive scene for sword and shield turned about to be. So that of course won't be happening in Pokemon Go since we don't actually have normal pokemon battling. However, I'm excited to see Gigantimax since it'll be a lot more fitting in Pokemon Go, since we have raids. I hope they don't make it exclusionary with a weird energy but if they do it'll make or break the game for that half year. It'll break it if we feel substantially excluded from the whales that buy things everyday, and it'll be a massive PR storm if those new pokemon are big in pvp. And then it'll make the game if it gives us a third free raid to do each day as a free player. I my opinion the game should stick with 2 free raid passes or MORE, then give another free raid with whatever the gigantimax system is.

Lets hope they don't pull the same thing they did for G-Max Melmetal in SwSh. In the games you could give a Gigantimax eligible pokemon a Max Soup which would give them the Gigantimax Factor and they would be allowed to Gigantimax instead of a normal Dynamax. Melmetal doesn't like the Max Soup and therefore could not get Gigantimax Factor that way. The only way people were able to get a Gigantimax Melmetal was from an event held in Pokemon Home, which gave players a Melmetal with the Gigantimax Factor. So we can only pray that Niantic doesn't decide to pull some similar bs.

I'm really curious how this system is going to work from a game mechanic standpoint in the main series gigantamax doesn't actually affect a Pokemon stats besides HP the only other things that are affected are the Pokemons moves

The main series went completely to pot after gen 6. Gen 5 and 6 we saw the start of this one "gimic" per generation thing with fusions in 5 then mega's in 6. Then in 7 we started getting alternate forms with alolan forms, (I'm sure there was some other gimic aswell someone tell me what it is) and every generation since has seen new evolutions or forms because they've run out of imagination, alongside dumb gimics like gigantamax or paradox forms turning pokemon into literal robots. I liked that PoGo was largely detached from all the new nonsense and I think Mega's and origin forms are a good place for PoGo to stop in terms of gimics, because they're actually cool. I'll be very dissapointed if we get gigantamax raids before some sort of gym challenge with leaders popping up to battle e.g. at the end of routes or on gyms. Seeing as that's a feature of the main series seince gen 1 that we haven't seen in PoGO yet instead theyre pursuing the dumb gimics that the newer gens have produced.

I think GMax might work same as Megas where you gotta do separate raids to get the energy to dmax and pretty much make a new branch of mega. They keep cycling megas that we’ve done may times over why not throw dmax Pokemon in there. Add in pushing the galar Pokemon that havent been released. I’m for it.
