I watched it as a kid and bought a DVD of several of the original US series. Speaking of the theme song, the DVD have a technical informative section. Henry Mancini actually directed the music for the series. They stated they recorded the music at New York's Radio City Music Hall but had to wait until the Rockettes finished their work. They couldn't use the mucic hall until around 8pm

I watched GIGANTOR, KIMBA THE WHITE LION, ASTRO BOY, and SPEED RACER as a kid way back in the late 1960s, but my favorite cartoon jam from that period was MARINE BOY. Japanese animation during that time was leagues ahead of Hanna-Barbara’s animation.

@@MrTomengle In the mid 60's, we lived on Mariposa and Palmer, too. Then in '69 we moved to Eagle Rock. I'd watch Gigantor and Johnnie Quest, then go outside to play hit the bat in the street with friends on Wiota, or walk a long ways through one of the water channels and pop up out of a gutter, sometimes a manhole. Being a kid was fun sometimes. I also worked for Tony Sardo on Colorado and for the Glendale Family YMCA on Wilson. I miss Glendale at times. My first apartment was at The Ritz Apartment on Brand and then I lived at The Brand Hotel. That wat in the 70's. I left Glendale after the Northridge earthquake and never looked back. I grew up on anime and watched older shows like Speed Racer, Astroboy and the like. I enjoyed mecha as a child so when Voltron (aka Golion/Dairugger XV) came out, I watched that, Robotech (aka Macross) and later on in the 90s, Gundam. Tetsujin 28 inspired Tryder G7, Giant Robo, the Iron Giant and even a PS2 game Enix made called RAD: Robot Alchemic Drive. It's true that they don't make shows like they used to. I have watched the 80s version of Tetsujin 28 and enjoyed it. More so than the dub. I felt like it was Saturday morning all over again.

GIGANTOR was my all time FAVORITE animation cartoon. The FIRST time I saw it, I believe it was 1967. At the time I was a young boy of 8yrs old, Immediately I was hooked on the show, infact me and my friends would play "GIGANTOR" at school during recess time. We would draw pictures of gigantor in class when we were suppose to doing our assignments, especially me etc...One day during the noon recess me and some of my friends were playing gigantor, one of the girls in my classroom told me: "Eddie, robot's can't talk".....It was as though she took the wind out of my sail. I just brushed it off and continued on playing.

Nice video! I remember watching Gigantor after school at 4 pm on channel 9 wor TV in New York. I was always looking for toys or model kit of Gigantor but had to wait until the 1990s to find one. Peter Fernandez re wrote the dialog into English and added lots of humor, and the voice cast made the cartoon fun ,and the NBC orchestra provided the jazzy music in the American version.I had a chance to see some of the episodes in Japanese that were not dubbed into English, and in the early episodes Tetsujin 28 had no rockets on his back and his only means of locomotion was walking. Very fond memories!!

I remember watching and loving Gigantor when I was a kid in the 70’s. The theme song and incidental music really stuck with me. I really envied Jimmy Sparks. He was a kid who had control of a giant robot and he can drive a car. A kid that young. Along with characters like Dr. Brilliant and Inspector Blooper, you have a balance of seriousness and comedy in a rousing adventure story. It was violent and sometimes scary. But it was all dealt with because of Gigantor defeating evil. The voice over reading of the title of every episode was memorable. “MONSTER FROM THE DEEP!” Those were great times to be a kid.

Since my family forced me to go to "Sunday School" it was hit or miss if I got to see it. But as a little kid in the early 70s I thought the control looked like a lunchbox.
